Apple releases Logic Studio and Logic Express 8
With the Apple Store back up, it seems that it wasn't merely maintenance this morning, as the store now bears new versions of Apple's professional music software, Logic Pro 8 (now 'Logic Studio'). Logic Studio's new features include:- A new single-window interface (similar to Apertures)
- Improved editing
- Sountrack Pro 2.0 in the box
- The ability to "...save your key commands, channel strip settings and plug-in settings to your .Mac account for easy backup, sharing, and portability".
Logic Express, the little brother to the studio suite, also received an upgrade to version 8, with the baby brother $199US version taking many of the new features in the Pro version including "...full notation, 24-bit/192kHz resolution, and Quick Swipe comping". Previous versions of Logic Express can upgrade for $99.

What are the biggest things that I'll miss out on if I go with the Express version?
November 05 2007 at 4:27 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI am not happy about Apple's treatment of their customers. In June of 2007 I bought the new Mac Pro from Guitar Center. I then went back and bought Logic Pro from them for a thousand bucks. I thought this will be great. Finally, no more 10 minute startups and shutdowns and blue screens of death and missing dlls. I finally got the MS monkey off my back. I then find out that the thousand dollar Logic software that I bought is now only $499. To further my insult they will charge me $199. to upgrade to their new Logic Studio which does not seem to have a great deal of improvements of Logic 7. So I paid $500. more than anyone else and now have to pay another $199. to upgrade. That means that Apple will be taking $700. of my money and giving me exactly nothing for it. Did this happen to anyone else? I think Apple should offer the upgrade free to all Logic 7 customers. What do you people think?
October 12 2007 at 12:53 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHey guys, I DOWNLOADED LOGIC EXPRESS FROM A TORRENT... MY QUESTION IS IF I BUY THE UPGRADE TO LOGIC STUDIO THOUGH APPLE... WOULD IT WORK?
Please help me :)
cheers
$100 upgrade from my version of Express to this new version was tempting enough, but Ultrabeat boxed in? WIN! iDrum was definitely cracking under the pressure, especially with its lack of support for different time signatures.

I will never look behind.. this package is worth more than I ever thought.. Pro Tools 7.4 is gone from my system, and I only press on with Apple software.. its time for a breathe of fresh air.

Am I the only one Amazed that this day is real?
The product needed to be "dumbed down"
What made Logic so intimidating was the old Emagic software mixed with apple's ideas about what the product should be.
This is a completely new product, and will get many more people on board.
Those who say they want Logic to be complex are just gear snobs and want to seem better than others for understanding the environment window.
Some questions over at the Pro apps discussion thread for Logic:
Is it 64-bit (can it address more than 4GB of RAM)?
Is there an upgrade path from an academic version?
Can it be installed alongside L7 instead of overwriting it?
Bad news for previous Logic User..a $700 setback for very little real innovation and functionality after all this wait! Apple has dumbed down a once cutting edge application. Time to switch to Ableton Live now..anybody intrested in buying a logic key for $200?
September 12 2007 at 5:05 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyBrian: Agreed. Combined with the new prices, maybe in a year or two I won't just get funny looks when I say I use Logic. I've got a buddy who works for a major US music retailer, and he says he has NEVER had someone come in asking for a Logic setup (which could be because people buy directly from Apple, but still...). Logic is quality software, it just has really stiff competition.
I'm also pretty excited that Apple did what they should have done years ago: Give it the look and feel of an Apple product. Here's to hoping the environment section is nicer to use...
Is the price a joke? Im trying to tell myself there is a catch to the 50% price reduction. I almost bought DP5 this weekend.
Tell me Im not dreaming.....newer updated version w/ more features for half the price? What am I missing?
