iPod Touch unboxing

No sooner do we get word that some Apple Stores have the iPod Touch in stock do we find some unboxing pictures (via our sister blog, Engadget). The pictures aren't the best but it will give you a good idea of what comes in the box (here's a hint: other than the iPod, not much. Am I the only one that misses the days when you got lots of stuff with your iPod? I feel like an old man, 'In my day iPods came with docks! And they had a FireWire port! And they were Mac only! You kids with your iPods and your touching.').
If those pictures leave you clamoring for more iPod Touch info check out the iPod Touch Feature Guide (yep, it is a PDF).

I couldn't believe how ripped off I felt when I sold my 4G on eBay. I took the money and put it towards a new 5G. If I knew it didn't come with a charger I would have kept the one from my 4G. I had to go back out and buy another one. That was a bummer.

I remember when iPods didn't have docks and the firewire port was on the top! And to play a game, you had to goto Settings > About and hold down the select button. Breakout was a secret back in iPod Software 1.0. Wow... 2001 seems like forever ago. I feel old and I just turned 20!
In any case, it seems Apple wants to make the iPhone the premium iPod touch and not have it cannibalize sales. So it makes sense that they'd distinguish it in many ways. Like how the iPod photo came with a dock and the 4G iPod monochrome screen did not.

Those are some crappy unboxing pictures. He didn't actually photograph everything. Like, unboxing pics are pretty much worthless anyway, but if you're not gonna go to the trouble of taking pics of everything, you've actually subtracted time from your lifespan without ANY reason.
I'm curious to see what the "stand" that comes with it looks like. I'm kinda pissed that my iPhone didn't come with one. Apple's really making some stupid customer satisfaction decisions lately.

Just a random Flickr find I think, but If Engadget had taken them, the black (as in Steve Jobs' turtleneck) would have become brown.
Always strikes me as ironic that so-called gadget experts can't take a properly exposed picture to save their lives.
Don't get me started on their tripod-less video footage.

Looks like the ability to edit contacts was there all along, unless the Guide is mistaken.

doesn't look like you can add events to ical, that was what was removed from the page (I thought), all the headlines were talking about contacts on digg, but I didn't see that removed.

When I got my 4th gen ipod in '04 (which I still have and it works just fine), it came with the goods: wall charger, firewire 400 AND usb 2.0 cables, ...but not the dock. that came w/ the 40gb ipod. and i'm only 16, so that guy's comment that said, "You kids with your iPods and your touching." doesn't imply to that rare group of teen tech guys. =P

Yeah, I feel like my 4th gen came with the dock, USB and Firewire, wall charger, headphones, headphone covers and sleeve. 5th gen? headphones, sleeve, and USB ccable. It was a bit of a letdown....

Not only did the "back when they were still cool" iPod models come with all the cables, docks, and other extravagant bento origami whatsits, they also came with a big CUBE box...
A box that made you feel you'd really got something for your $400, and with more layers to exhume than the archeological dig at Troy.
Now you just get a minimalist little paper card thing with a plastic bag inside.
The sarcophagus that the nanos come in is cool though.

#4: what stand are you talking about? the phone comes with a dock that you can 'stand' the phone on.. I only have a 3g and 5g ipod, did the 1st, 2nd, or 4th gens come with an actual stand?

better for the environment,,, better for most consumers who r happy to charge it via the comp - my 4g u2 ipod came with a charger but it's perpetually tethered to a mac cos the battery's is givin up the ghost
my q bout the ipod touch is - can it play streamed content from a shared itunes library ?
that would be a killer feature for me cos my home library is on a shared drive and i'll try set one up at work in the future
