1st-gen iPod nano lanyards work with new "fatty" nanos
In case you were wondering, the old lanyards for the 1st-gen iPod nanos work with the current 3rd-gen (aka "fatty" or "video") nanos. Apple moved the dock connection and headphone port away from each other in the 2nd-gen nanos, thus ruining the party for a lot of 3rd-party accessory manufacturers. But now all is well again, unless you just despise the look and shape of the new nano, of course. And before a wiseacre chimes in with "slow news day, huh?" we'll be honest and say, that yes, it IS a slow news day. Apple has an event next week, which generally means a quiet period beforehand. So until someone sends us pictures of Steve Wozniak showing Larry the Cable Guy a magic trick, we're just going to have to deal with a fairly sparse day of posting.
[thanks to moo for the Woz link and Atariboy for the lanyard tip]

No one who actually held one of the new nanos in their hand would EVER call it the "fatty" nano. Although I agree it looks awful in photos, in person it is a sleek and incredibly thin device. Yes, the screen is larger, so it's wider than the old nano--but it's still impossibly small. It's like stacking two credit cards together and then playing 8GB worth of audio and video on it, on the highest-pixel iPod screen Apple's ever made. Call them 3G nanos, "new" nanos (good until next fall at least), or video nanos. But "fatty" or "fat" is demeaning and completely inaccurate.

There's an event next week?!
I guess I'll be saving that $100 Apple Store Credit then!

Since it's a slow news day I was curious to know whether or not there is a way to contact individual bloggers about a topic that I just found regarding my iPhone? Anyone know what to do to email them?

I don't like the name fatty. it ain't fat.
I prefer 'after eight', after the chocolate.

Yeah I agree don't think that Apple had that name in mind when they came out with the new albeit wider nano.

I have two of these and they are anything but fat... PHAT describes them much better.

Jonathan - middle column of the page near the bottom, under "Send Us News Tips". I know it's hard to find - looks just like one of those text ads. TUAW needs to make it more prominent, and I'm sure they would receive more tips.

I have a box with all of my "old" iPod stuff in it - very neatly packed of course - dug out the old white lanyard and wha la! I have my new red phat iPod Nano hanging 'round my neck - even as we speak.
Thanks, atariboy for letting us know that you were rummaging through all of your stuff and thought "Hey, that looks like it just might fit my new phat nano" and so with fear uncertainty and (possibly) doubt (which you obviously over came) presented us with a "non-news day tip!
Cheers!
Great find!

I'd like to know how safe it is. Does it feel like it might come off? Is the fit quite tight? Is the fit precise?
Looks like the best solution but I'm concerned about it dropping off.
