iPod Classic and Nano get updated to 1.0.2
iTunes has an update for the new iPod Classic and the new Nanos, and while the update doesn't have a description at all, MacRumors sez:- Improved CoverFlow
- Quicker menus
- And the much awaited video out fix, among a few other interface tweaks
At any rate, if you think it works better, then more power to you-- enjoy your updated iPod. As always, the update can be grabbed by connecting up your Classic or Nano to iTunes and hitting "Check for Updates."

I'm worried that the camera connector may never reappear for the Classic - I saw comments elsewhere about hardware issues - the possibility to save photos was one of the main reasons for getting my 160GB classic

Any changes you do can always be reversed with a software restore. An error message reminding you to connect to iTunes, or iTunes complaining about a damaged iPod, these are not examples of bricking, since iTunes can restore the software to make everything right again.
iPhones, on the other hand, have additional chips on the device that could be reprogrammed. Mistakes in reprogramming the baseband or other chips could leave the iPod in a state that an iTunes restore could *not* fix. If the device is either somewhat or totally unusable in this state, that is considered "bricking," since your iPhone is worth no more to you than a brick, and is in a state that Apple will most likely not cover under warranty.
iPods may get into a state that cannot be repaired using iTunes restore, but this is called "broken" instead of "bricked." The difference is Apple will continue to cover "broken" iPods as long as they show no physical damage, while "bricked" iPhones will get no such love.
I've not noticed any major difference in performance since updating my 80GB Classic.

What's going on?
"More conveniently, all my compliations in Cover Flow are now grouped together, so I don't have 16 "Triple J Hottest 100"s, 1 for each of the artists on the CD."
Finally! This was annoying!
Are they also grouped on album artist instead of artist?
The reason they dont tell us they made it better is because they think it should have been perfect to begin with and if they make it better it wasnt perfect
October 08 2007 at 2:23 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI did notice it broke one thing, at least on mine - when I go to the Settings -> About screen, there is no way to get to the 2nd and 3rd pages.
October 07 2007 at 11:09 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThis is the best iPod firmware update eeeeever. The speed difference in the menus on the classic is HUGE. I don't see too much difference in coverflow... I guess it might be slightly improved when scrolling quickly through many albums.
But the time it takes to display the main -> music -> artist -> album -> and song menus is about halved on my 80gb Classic.
More conveniently, all my compliations in Cover Flow are now grouped together, so I don't have 16 "Triple J Hottest 100"s, 1 for each of the artists on the CD.
