Deep Discount Apple TV
TUAW reader Cannonball found an amazing deal on Apple TV at Sams Club in Murfreesboro, TN for $153.01. Call your local Sams Club and see whether they are offering clearance Apple TVs as well and, if they are, let us know in the comments.
For all of you wondering about the big fuss, not only is Apple TV a great and thoroughly hackable toy but it is also, essentially, a very inexpensive Mac Mini. Check out the wiki at Awkward TV for wonderful ways to hack your unit.

October 19 2007 at 3:46 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYes, the sales tax is high (lower on food, none on drugs) but TN has no income tax. Some national candidates are proposing the same for federal taxation.
As far as the EU, they already require that US companies collect VAT for them. I think it is long overdue that US states impose sales tax collection on EU companies doing business with US customers as well. It is only fair.
You can also sometimes catch them at Apple.com (type in refurbished in the search)
You can get deals on ipods and all types of Apple gear

I didn't get a display unit. It was a brand new in shrink wrap unit and there were at least 10 more in the lock up cage.
October 18 2007 at 12:19 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyJust called Chattanooga's Sams. He explained to me the situation. He said they had to buy the display from Apple for 150.00. Once the store sells all units they can then sell the display if they wish. The display is a perfect unit with just Apple's media pre-installed. They must show a profit for the display so there is the 3.01. He said they have two units left for 289.00 but he can't offer me the display until they are gone. Oh well.

October 18 2007 at 9:42 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyGuys, just to add to your bargain basement, i managed to pick up a .mac subscription from Toys R Us in England for £14.99 which is about $30!!! The reason being that it was the last box, and the old style box saying about 4gb combined storage etc..
Still a bargain was had in the UK for once, and yeah the 17.5% tax on everything is a beeeaaattttch!
