Leopard tops Amazon software bestseller list

I don't know about you, but I have a little bit of the Leopard fever. And while you might be immune to all the wonders that Leopard has in store for us, Amazon shoppers seem to be as gaga over Apple's big cat as I am. Leopard is currently sitting at the number one and two spots on Amazon's Software Bestseller list (the Family Pack comes in second to the single license) due, in part, to Amazon's aggressive pricing on Leopard ($109 for the single OS license and $189 for the Family pack). The next highest OS on the list is Windows XP home edition which is at number 28 at the time of this writing (though to be fair, XP and Vista have both been out for awhile, so it makes sense that a brand new OS would garner more attention and buyers).
It is also interesting to note, in light of the new marketshare numbers, that Mac software has 6 of the top 10 spots on the list (Office 2004 is at 4, iLife '08 is 6th, .Mac is 7th, and Parallels is 10th) and that 10 of the top 20 spots are inhabited by Mac software.
Keep in mind these rankings are valid while I am writing this post, and might change given the nature of Amazon's Bestseller lists.

Erm, my math is wrong. [In my defense I started a morning shift at 5:45] But it wouldn't buy me two versions, obviously. Still, the price difference is amazing.
I wonder if I could order this from the US store (I use the English version of OS X anyway). It doesn't explicitly say they won't deliver outside of the US (globalization? my ass)...
Since it's 109 dollars at this time that would mean 76 euros. Here [meaning inside the European Union] it'll be sold for 129 euro (that's over 182 dollars, which would in fact buy me two versions AND give me change for take out dinner).
The dollar has been trading at record lows for years now but Apple hasn't wised up to that fact. [I don't buy the 'it is a little more expensive to do business here'[dixit Jobs at the UK iPhone introduction]
I wasn't sure either. Although Leopard looks really great, it's really better to wait a while for Apple to fix the initial bugs. I'd hope that people are just getting it early to get ready to wait... but hey, go for it, you'll just be bug testers for patient people like me.

Remember Steve said that there are still some things there weren't going to mention? I really hope that it wasn't the new features of Address Book or the Japanese addition to the dictionary, as cool as those are.
Soo...... What's the secret Peter?... Naturally, I say it's the wine. Mmmmm, it does go well with the chicken.
Delicious again Peter.
I can't wait!!
While I am glad they are advancing OS X don't see why so me people are such quick adopters. Would want this on my computer till 2008. Why mess around with a new os and the unknowns.
October 18 2007 at 7:15 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI wouldn't be surprised if the XP and Vista sales numbers in the next two weeks reflect the amount of folks buying new Macs or Leopard. I just put in an order at Newegg for XP Pro and VMWare Fusion along with another gig of RAM for the new iMac I'll be ordering next week. I doubt I'm the only one making such purchases...
October 18 2007 at 6:43 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAm I the only one that think it cool that Leopard has not been released yet and its already on the top-sellers list? Anyway, I'm glad to hear about the $69 academic price my software budget is small these days and that $116 was scaring me something awful.

My amazon.com order shows a shipping estimate of 10/31 and a delivery estimate of 11/02.
Might be worth noting that Amazon.co.uk is also listing Leopard in their top sellers list. The single and family license pack keep jumping around in the Top 5, but currently they're at numbers 2 and 4 respectively.
