Photo of the Leopard Retail DVD
Only two more sleeps left until we can get our hands on Leopard, Apple's latest version of OS X. The good folks at Hardmac.com have managed to snap some pictures of the retail version of Leopard, just in case you can't wait any longer.Ah, you know we're getting close when we post a link to a picture of a DVD.

My copy has yet to ship from Apple.com, it's listed as 'Prepared For Shipment'. Should I be nervous? : /

I wonder if the "Designed and engineered by Apple in California" will start appearing on everything. Sounds more impressive than the original "Designed by Apple in California"

#1 -- I think you should be more nervous installing Leopard. If Leopard is like any of the other Apple products released lately (like iLife 08 and iWork 08), expect bugs and of course the updates from Apple a month later.
I don't like being a Beta tester. I would wait until Apple realeses the first set of updates before installing Leopard.

To #1, I am pretty sure they are sending them out Thursday, because it says priority overnight. So, who knows.

#4 -- Yes, there will be a patch on day 1 of Leopard release, but nothing to worry about. The improvements in Leopard will be overshadowed by by the bugs which will not be noticed by most users. You will notice a significant speed increase if you're running on a dual processor :-)

if any of you want to take a look at the french version, it seems many shops are already getting shipments and might actually start giving it away to pre-orders earlier than expected...

ok it's actually the same page..
sorry i look stupid.
thought you had found the american box.
still resellers already have the stock here in paris, and we are not quite in the same time zone as cupertino so i guess, that maybe, as they say, they'll give it away earlier.
i'll go give it a try tomorrow, who knows.

I already have my copy installed and running smoothly. Have fun sleeping, double up on your Ambien so you'll drop into a coma for the next 2 days and wake up 1hr before launch time.

I'm happy to see that the disc is actually secured to something. IIRC, every other version of OS X came in one of those flimsy envelopes in a great big box. I had at least two experiences where the disc was bouncing around in the box, getting all scratched up because it got out of the envelope.

Thanks, guys. Ya, with priority overnite I'm not too worried now, I didn't notice that before.
Is it shipping Fed-Ex? What time should I expect it?

Am I the only one who really, really dislikes the purple outer space imagery that's all over Leopard now? It reminds me of a background that a twelve-year-old might have used for his first web site back around 1995. I'm hoping there's another variation on the abstract blues they've been using forever that I can switch to as soon as I install Leopard.

I really hope to see this somewhere BEFORE I install my copy. (Pre ordered from Amazon for the $109.00 and no shipping, but I wont be installing for about 2+ weeks). How FAST is this OS compared to Tiger. I'm on a first gen iMac Intel Core Duo. And if 10.5 will run faster than 10.4, all other things being equal, I would really like to know. Thanks

I ordered mine online from Apple here in Canada. Received an e-mail last night (24th, 2300 hrs) that said it was shipped priority overnight and should be here today (25th). No tracking information yet on Purolator but they always seem to have a slow system.

I wonder if the Mac OS 10.5 Up-To-Date discs will be identical to the retail ones? Or if they'll modify the Up-To-Date discs to remove the PowerPC installers and require an existing installation of 10.4?
