Leopard delivery delays hit some areas

In other news, reader Don also had a problem with his Leopard delivery-- when checking his tracking number with FedEx online, he noticed to his dismay that someone named "Ramirez" had already signed for his package (and he doesn't know anyone named Ramirez). He called Apple and they blamed FedEx, saying that FedEx was reusing tracking numbers, and the signature Don was seeing was for a different package.
And even if you have your copy, you may still be having problems-- Paul got his copy in Australia last night, but says Software Update has been zerged to death. With so many people trying to sign on and get their new apps, it may be a rough road for installers this weekend. Good luck out there.
Update: We've also heard about a delay out of Indy. If you were expecting Leopard in the US by 10:30am, odds are you don't have it yet.

Irony is, I just had a package delivered a few days before, using the same form for the other package.
Why does one work, and the other not?
I printed out the slip from the Apple site and signed it and taped it to my door, but the delivery person said that I needed to sign their door tag.
Luckily my local FedEx is very close, but does not excuse the fact that they refused to deliver when I left a signature release for them.
Amazon Customer Service claims that they shipped my pre-order but I have yet to receive either the product or a shipping confirmation email (with tracking number). I just went to my local Micro Center store and bought it since they are offering a $40 rebate on Leopard, bringing my cost down to $89.99. You can order it online through them or in the store, and the rebate ends today (10/28/2007).

It'll come on Monday, the one day of the week no one is around the house to sign for it.
*sigh*
Update 2: after many excuses from fedex, and promised delivery of yesterday, and a promised delivery of this morning... still no leopard.. can't even go pick it up from the fedex location because apparently its in a location that no one had access to.. the 4th person from fedex ive talked on the phone with has again promised monday, or tuesday shipping, even though the box has been sitting here in Portland, Oregon for a few days. Apple Customer Service has told me im and isolated case, and one of the few who haven't received leopard yet, and went on to tell me how great leopard was, and how he's installed it on all of his computers and its amazing.. and blah blah, but can't help me with an order I placed on the 16th, telling me.. quote " fedex will get to in their own time " I guess I don't see the point in ever pre-ordering anything from apple again.. 2 days off work, lost money, and now I have to take another day on monday to wait again for fedex.. leopard cost 129, lost work pay 224... way to go fedex!! I guess the good old days of being a valued user of the mac community is over.. welcome the rise of Apple Inc.

October 27 2007 at 12:24 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replylos angeles, here. i was tracking mine all day with the "delivery status" widget. when we saw the word "exception," my assistant called fedex, and they promised delivery "by 7pm." well, that never happened.... a short time ago, the widget info changed to "delivery BY OCTOBER 29." i am so frigging pissed. they said i could pick it up from the center -- but it closes at 7pm. too late.
so i'm going to an apple store to get it -- there are so many of them here, so it's no big deal -- and i will refuse the shipment that's delivered on monday.
Mine went out for delivery, I saw the "future delivery requested" exception at 9:49 am, then nothing until 8:25 pm when it returned to FedEx facility. I was here all day - so much for guaranteed on 10/26! I hope Apple gets some overnight shipping money back.

I was supposed to be priority next day, my copy went out on the 25th, wont arrive until Monday Oct 29. They did cancel the charge on my card, but still, this is still a huge SNAFU for Apple.
