For a long while I've been a fan of
BluePhoneElite - a nifty piece of software that allows call (and SMS) management via your Mac if you own a phone that the software supported. For well over a year now, the next version of BPE has been in testing and finally now available for public consumption. So, what's new? Features include:
- You can use your Mac as a a Bluetooth hands-free device,
- Phone to computer call-log syncing,
- Symbian and Windows Mobile support
Before we go any further, be aware that the feature set of BPE is dependent on a supported handset and so your mileage may vary depending on the phone you own (sadly, the iPhone doesn't support most of BluePhoneElite's features). That said, I love the ability to send SMSes from the comfort of my MacBook Pro (and Aluminum Keyboard) and coupled with things such as Talk-thru (Bluetooth hands free) this is looking to be a pretty sweet update.
BluePhoneElite 2 is a free upgrade to previously registered customers, whilst a new licence costs $24.95. If you're unsure your phone is supported, or simply want to give the software a whirl, a 14-day demo is available from the Mira Software site.

Bah, even though they say my HTC Tytn should be compatible, it's not. Shame.

BPE2 is not fully compatible yet with Leopard. An error comes out every time you receive a text message

I downloaded a demo a year or two ago and found it wasn't compatible with my phone.
Now I have a different phone, but the demo no longer runs and current versions detect the presence of an earlier demo on my Mac and also refuse to run. So I have no way to tell how well my new phone works. And I'm not paying $25 to find out.

I'm on Leopard, and it SUCKS on some things I liked on v1.
- The wonderfull Chat window? Gone
- Message Center through the menu bar icon? Gone. Why?
- Only show on menu bar? Gone. Only have an option to hide it from both Dock and menu bar
- Status window while sendig a message? Gone.
- Stability (on Leopard at least)? GONE!
Sometimes, when I select a message on Message Center, it takes me to the inbox folder, disapearing the message list. (unread ones at least)
The auto completion while typing contact names is slower
I was happy the way the betas were going, but a lot is missing. There's some cool stuff in it, but I'll stick with BPE1 until they bring back Chat and make it more stable...
And I'm sendig this to them to...

What's with the bloody spamming, roper and Rogue ?
BPE2 looks good, especially now that it works with me phone. I just wish my phone had a battery that wouldn't mind BT staying on all the time.

I really enjoyed using BPE and was sad when I had to give it up (moved to iPhone).
It's worth a look.

Kalessin ...
If you go to the BluePhone website, Under Need Help? ... Contact Customer Support ... send us an email ... and explain your situation, they more than likely will give you an extension to try BPE with your new phone. It's worth a try. :)
