Logitech mouse control in Leopard
We've mentioned the problems folks have had with the Leopard upgrade with unsanity's APE installed. As Gruber points out, however, the same problem can affect people who have installed the Logitech Control Center software that comes with Logitech mice and keyboards, because LCC apparently uses APE behind the scenes. While some finger wagging is due to Logitech for this, the question now comes up as to what to use instead of LCC to gain access to all the buttons. It turns out that there are at least three options: USB Overdrive ($20), SteerMouse ($20), and ControllerMate ($15), all of which are now Leopard compatible. Of the three, I've only used ControllerMate myself and would recommend it. However, any of the three should give you back control of your Logitech mouse -- it's just a shame you have to spend extra money to get this kind of functionality.[via Daring Fireball]

Using USB Overdrive here. Works flawlessly with Leopard. I had to reinsall with the latest version (had 10.4.5 before updating to Leopard), but after restarting all my old settings were exactly as they were before. For what it's worth, I cloned my drive, erased the drive, did a clean install of Leopard and then used migration assistant to move it all back. My MX1000 was back in action with minimal fuss.

One of the few times I'll give props to Microsoft, but they finally got their OS X mouse & keyboard software right. Back in May they got around to adding Bluetooth support after several versions (and years) without. I'm still surprised Logitech would use APE...

Hi.
I installed the current Logitech Control Center from their website after a clean install, and it works like a charm for now!

I'm running Logitech Control Panel on Leopard without a problem. It was installed before the upgrade, and continues to work after.

MX 1000 user here...
Did a clean install of Leopard and installed (though web site) Logitech's control center after Leopard. Thus far no problems to report.

I use a Logitech LX7 (for about 2 years now) with the Logitech Control Center... I had no problems upgrading to Leopard. The settings were slightly messed up after the install, but I fixed that in a couple minutes.

Using a Wave wireless combo (not sure which mouse it is).
Did an archive install, reimporting my user account, reinstalled the Logitech control panel afterwards and it's been working fine (without having to re-enter the settings).

If you'll forgive me, other than changing the mouse acceleration, what do these programs give me? (Or is that the point?).
I have a 5 button logitech mouse, and buttons 4 and 5 are expose and spaces respectively. Works great. I'm using standard Leopard. The mouse cursor is the standard "slow" Mac mouse but I've gotten used to that.

I've read conflicting reports on how to uninstall LCC. Logitech acts like the uninstaller is in the install folder, but I did not find it there. Can someone point me to some information on how to uninstall? Thanks.

Yeah we had to uninstall the logitec driver in TIGER! When ever you scrolled in DVD player the whole thing freaked out! It was a mess...

Of the three options, ControllerMate is by far the most powerful allowing you to customise even the acceleration curve of the mouse -- although I had no luck getting a Windows-like curve to work. It's also incredibly complicated and the GUI is an absolute nightmare.
I found SteerMouse to be unpleasant to work with, but it did recognise the most buttons on my VX Revolution. In the end I bought USB Overdrive as it had the easiest setup and most pleasant GUI (really not saying much there though -- none of these apps are even close to typical Mac standards of usability). USB Overdrive doesn't seem to recognise the 'search' button on my VX though.

I'm with David. I am trying to figure out how to install the LCC. Anyone have any advice?

davidcsawyer:
The "LCC Uninstaller" is in the /Library/Application Support/Logitech folder on my system.

Ugh. First, I had to download the software from their site, because the Intel version wasn't on their disk. Then an update gives me an annoying reminder when I plug it in, and now this?
wtf logitech?

SteerMouse FTW. It does evertyhing i want and it's simple enough to use that anyone can figre it out.
I wasn't aware of ControllerMate but maybe i'll give it a try seeing that you can adjust the acceleration curve ! :O
Are there standard Windows acceleration profiles that i can import for it ?

I'm no fan of Microsoft but my Trackball explorer died recently and I've not found anything to properly replace it. The logitechs are OK but the software is very poor.

I don't have a Logitech mouse, but have a Logitech Harmony remote control. I experienced the "blue screen of sadness" as well.
