Macworld explains how not to get bitten by malware
We recently mentioned the new OS X malware that's floating around the (nether side) of the net these days. Over at Macworld, Rob Griffiths has an extensive article discussing the ways you can tell if a piece of downloaded software is fishy. The tips range from the obvious (only download from trusted sources) to the arcane (diving into packages to examine the installer components). The overall strategy is to examine the software carefully and look for tell-tale signs that it's not legitimate. In any case, it should give you a good set of strategies to use when evaluating a questionable download.

You know, I hope this is not the beginning of bad times to come for the Mac OS. Smells fishy i think Microsoft is in on it.

It's "tell tale," not "tell tell."

How stupid do you have to be to install a "codec" from a porn site. Porn site owners tend not to be developers.
Any OS is going to be susceptible to foul play when the lowest common denominator is the user.

Between QuickTime, avi, MPEG, Real, WMP, I would think that all of one's porn viewing needs would be served.
Anyone who downloads a codec from a porn site to view porn deserves to get screwed. And not in a good way, either.
The Stupid will ALWAYS be with us. "Click HERE to see (Female Celebrity Name) naked/her stolen sex tape!"
There will always be some luser who will click on that link, and deliberately input their Admin password when directed to.
OS X may be the best OS out there, but even the wizards of Cupertino can't do a whole lot when it comes to The Stupids out there in the real world.
