TUAW Talkcast #13: Two Days of the Leopard

Just thought I'd point out that some of the remarks about hackintosh installation were incorrect. Specifically, users aren't required to torrent the install disk. There _is_ a recipe to take an iso of the disk (produced from a purchased off the shelf copy) and patch it to install on non-apple computers. Sharing of Apple IP over the internet is not required.
And if you want to run it on a decent computer, you _are_ out a lot of money. Some people need to have a graphics card in their computer. My friend who did it is using a computer he built himself, with a graphics card on par with a low end Mac Pro. It was made of a spare case, spare HD, and various parts purchased on Newegg. It is significantly more powerful than a Mac Mini, and cost him about the same amount.

I believe at the time we recorded the show (last Sunday) there was not yet a published procedure to do the Leopard hackintosh install without torrenting a hacked ISO.

Loving the talkcasts! But is it possible that the podcast could be released sometime during the week, rather than the next weekend? As it is, the info (while maybe interesting) is at least a full week out of date for those of us who can't join in live.

It's not just Leopard users experiencing trouble connecting with Talkshoe; as a member of the loyal opposition using WinXP, the "listen" Talkshoe function never kicked in this week.
I did dial in to listen on my cell for a bit, but as an AT&T user in Houston, naturally, the call was dropped.
Always enjoy ya'll's comments and will try again next week.

Boy putting these out a week late really hurts your credibility. The information in this, being released 8 days after the release but recorded 2 days after, is almost cringing to listen to. And having hosts who have never even touched the system comment is really bad. Hopefully this will be the last time this happens.
But don't feel too bad, MacCast has put out 3 different shows in the last week and Adam Christianson the host hasn't used Leopard yet either.

I don't think there's any issue with having some participants who are already using Leopard (in some cases, over a long period of time with the developer seeds) and some who haven't. As noted, the Talkshoe client still isn't Leopard-ready, which complicates matters a bit.
Just for the record, the shows are always available on Talkshoe immediately after the live event ends. The delay in the podcasted version is due to the time it takes me to clean and edit the final file, since we want to do the best we can on audio quality -- I've got a full-time job and two children, so finding the editing time is not always easy. "Speed podcasting" tips always welcome.
I'm going to do the best I can to move the release date of the podcast file closer to the show date.

Michael, as someone who works in editing (usually video and sometimes audio) I'm going to back you up on how long it can take to cut an hour-long show. It's not quick! I have a friend who does a podcast that regularly runs an hour, and it's very hard on him to churn out more than one or two a month when he has other responsibilities.
The only tip I have for "Speed Podcasting" is lower your standards. Which in the end is what my friend chose to do, which makes his show sound a bit more raw, in both bad and good ways. In the end its the snazzy pro mic he's got that keeps it from being just garbage.

There is a hard-and-fast rule for computer use: If you need a computer, especially for work, NEVER INSTALL A DOT ZERO VERSION OF ANY SOFTWARE!!! (This goes triple for OSs.)
(I didn't start on a PC, that's too recent. I started on a Kaypro, which had the operating system Microsoft "borrowed" to create QDOS.)
