Microsoft Office 2004 11.3.9 out for download
The 2.5 MB update, offered in eight languages, requires Office 11.3.8 before installing. Happy updating!
Update: Some confusion in the comments over version numbering; remember that Office applications don't all track as one, so you may well see Excel, Entourage and Word disagreeing on what version they are. I generally refer to the version of the "Microsoft Component Plugin" (/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/ Office/Microsoft Component Plugin) to see what overall version of the suite is installed. For the record, the picture above is not of an obscure Hebrew logo, as a couple of readers have wondered: those are the icons of Entourage, Word, Powerpoint and Excel respectively.
Thanks Laurie!

11.3.9 requires 11.3.8 which requires 11.3.7 ad infinitum...

Why does the article's picture look like some text in Hebrew?

Yeah, the lack of a combined update for this is ridiculous.

What a slug... years late, bloated MS software still running in Rosetta years after the release of the spritely Intel Macintoshes. I used to be a MS fan and used the Office religiously but with Mail, Pages, Numbers, Keynote... why bother anymore? The Office 2008 (2009, 2010??) will eventually come (how late is it by now??) but it'll be feature-heavy, lethargic and fat (not to mention expensive!). Show your Mac colors and vote with your dollars... for NATIVE, Macintosh software developed for the Mac note ported from Windows years after the Windows release. How pathetic for people to drink the dregs of the Windows development team. Leave MS applications for the people running Vista (if they can keep it running that is...) and support applications written to take advantage of the Macintosh.
-Art (1975 Apple I guy, drawn to the Dark Side for awhile then seen the light in 2001 and came back to the Mac) Windows Sux, long live the Mac!

@jeff: You need to run Microsoft AutoUpdate again and again until you're completely updated. Then Office programs open fine. I ran into that problem too.

Sushi: LOL. The stylized E, W, P and X are the icons for Entourage, Word, Powerpoint and Excel, respectively.
If they were a Hebrew word, they'd be "akshep"... which doesn't seem to be a word. Perhaps it means "legacy software."

What kind of moronic update system is this? First, the autoupdate can't autoupdate, because it only knows the most recent update available and can't figure out the one you need. Second, the individual updaters you download can't seem to figure out what updates you've installed previously. The install logs indicate that 11.3.6 was the last update installed. But the 11.3.7 updater won't work - can't find anything that needs updating.
WTF! Is this Microsoft or Joe's Homemade Application Patcher?

And I care about this because...?
I use Pages, Numbers, Keynote and Mail... which all seem to work rather famously with Leopard. Hmmm..
MicroSuck sucks...

You have to admit it looks a lot like Hebrew, although the pei is backwards.

Why are you commenting if you don't care. Your statement shows that you are immature and insecure. Use iWork - nobody is stopping you.
TUAW does not publish posts specifically for you. There are plenty of people who found this post informative and are thankful to the poster. Nobody cares about why you don't care so stop commenting trash.

It says I need to start with 11.3.5, and downloads the update, but can't seem to find the programs to update. I get the BBOD and then I eventually (~5 min) just force quit the installer because I get frustrated. Anybody got any advice. I'm running Leopard. Thanks.

My sources say that Office 2008 RTM is 12 Dec. Yes, these sources are on the dev team. They're spending a lot of long late nights on the MS campus getting stuff to work and can't wait for it to be done.
Oh and they're already working on SP1. *rolls eyes*

Anyone know a way to get around/really simply automate the "11.3.9 requires 11.3.8 which requires 11.3.7 ad infinitum..." problem? I've never updated my Office (a little out-of-character for me), and just allowed AppFresh to scan my computer to update all my apps one last time before installing Leopard (yay!)...the ad infinitum actually only seems to go back to 11.3.5, but still so much tedious updating...

I have installed this update but in the about Word section it is still showing as 11.3.8 (even after repairing permissions and shut down / restart). Is this true for anyone else, or has the update not installed properly?

Right hows this for fun
Entourage is running 11.3.6
PowerPoint is running 11.3.5
Excel is running 11.3.7
Word is on 11.3.8
And I have upgraded every time an auto update has come through including the 11.3.9 update that autoupdate installed today
So what am I running 11.3 .5 .6 .7 .8 or .9

I try ad try and try Pages and still come back to Word.
Sorry. Office is the only product MS makes that is even remotely usable. Windoze as an OS is barfable -- no matter what the situation when I have to use it. Ugly, fat, dumb and totally unstable. Wouldn't date someone like that so why do 95% of the people in the world spend eight hours a day with such? Don't get it!

MS Word crashes so often on my MacBook that I have begun to type in textedit and then just copy/paste into word before saving so that I can open it on windows machines. It is so unstable on the intel Macs it is unusable, and I will have to bite the expensive bullet when Word 2008 comes out because I need to be able to open, and share docs with non mac users.
