Probably fixes the issue where Leopard installs don't always see the hard drive that shipped with the mac pro.... affected quite a lot of people, me included. hard to install Leopard when it doesn't see your hard drive...

Yeh, same thing happened to me when installing but I used the disk utility to verify the drive and it detected it. Sadly it took a hour for me to realise this.

If Leopard doesn't see your hard drive when you are trying to install, just wait 30 seconds to 5 minutes. Your drive should pop up after a short wait even though the computer doesn't seem to be doing anything.

Man, what if you aren't using the original drive that came with the mac? I just put a new WD in it to clean-install Leopard.
I'm not futzing with it.

I have a Mac Pro. And this software update does not even appear in the list of updates shown by the "software Update" app.
Do you have to download and install this update manually?

It's not in Software Update for me, either, and I have a brand-new 24" iMac. And have had no hard drive problems in the 3 days it's been alive :-)
When will we get a Mouse Update, or a Remote Update? We've already seen Keyboard Updates, iMac general hardware updates, and now Hard Drive updates. Is it me, or are they turning into a better-managed Microsoft?

There are also reported issues with some hard drives not working properly for Time Machine. This update may fix their firmware or drivers to resolve that issue.

Anyone have the model number and firmware version of their drive before and after the update? (Apple System Profiler will tell you this) I suspect it might have something to do with the high failure rate of some seagate drives apple has been using as reported by retrodata.

Re No. 7
I also have a Sept 06 3 Ghz Mac Pro and it also says that it is not needed for my machine. I wonder why our older Mac Pros do not need this update.

Before installing this update, I scanned VersionTracker (which includes notes about a like-named update from 2003). This report says the update applies only to Seagate drives:

My Mac Pro has a Western Digital drive, and the updater does, indeed, say ...
"This computer does not need this update."

GrizzlyAdams; The Retrodata warnings only cover the 2.5" drives.

I installed the updater and now my screen moves around when I move my mouse...like the desktop is too big for my screen! Yes, I checked the resolution, settings, etc. and it's all normal. What the hell?!
