Further evidence for iTunes video rentals
Evan DiBiase has posted more evidence for upcoming iTunes video rentals. After the recent iTunes 7.5 upgrade he examined the new binary to find what strings had been added. What he found sure looks like video rentals and, possibly, Video on Demand. New strings include: rental-content, rental-bag, getvodaccountselectionlist, GET VOD ACCOUNT SELECTION LIST and supportsRentals among others.

November 09 2007 at 10:03 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyso which is it, Steve, are multi-tiered pricing systems good or bad? When you've decided to grow up please let me know so I can get all-you-can-eat subscription music and video on my ipod, because until then it's nothing but torrents for me.

November 08 2007 at 9:40 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyGood grief, Apple, just make it so already. Between iTunes movie rentals, Beatles in iTunes, and Duke Nukem Forever, I'm not sure which to hold my breath for first.
BTW, this will never fly if it is more expensive than the alternatives (Netflix). Unless they offer HD. With all the recent whining from Hollywood about Apple killing their profits (complete bunk, of course), I fear ludicrous pricing for iTunes movie rentals. Sort of like the ludicrous pricing for iTunes movie purchases (sub-DVD quality and no physical product for DVD prices?) and ludicrous pricing for iTunes music (sub-CD quality and no physical product for CD prices?). Please.
Oh, and how about some *real* digital surround sound?
Wouldn't it be great if Apple hooked up with Netflix and provided a method for Netflix to stream video on demand to their Mac users?
Wishful thinking, I know, but still...
Yeah, but are they going to offer EXTREME movie rentals?...
November 08 2007 at 6:00 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI'm not interested in buying movies, but I certainly do rent them. If I could rent them at something like one viewing for $3, I'd do that. BTW, $5 is not okay, this needs to be CHEAPER than the video store down the street, not to mention NetFlix. Netflix doesn't make sense for me cause I only watch about one movie a month, so I'd definitely jump on cheap rentals from iTunes.
November 08 2007 at 5:47 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWell, now that BSG is gone from the iTunes store (assuming NBC Universal doesn't come to their senses) I'd love to be able to rent movies from iTunes to justify having purchased an TV.
November 08 2007 at 5:44 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI hear that, I had an AppleTV and will get another one. It was great. I would love to see rentals and VOD service from iTunes so long as the price is right ;)
