Pixelmator really has a nice UI. OSX.6 should look like it, that would be nifty.

Nice GUI or not, i just wont try it out because of that sucky watermark they have in the demo. You could argue that it is possible to try all the features in the program without saving but for me the part of saving a image is a really big part of it all and i have a feeling that it matters to pretty much everyone that uses any prgogram that can save something.
Until they remove the watermark thing on save (not even Photoshop has this!) i wont even touch it.

#2, you do have every featre in the demo, but expecting to save it without a watermark? Maybe the Pixelmator team haven't had time or spare resources to develop a time-based demo or something else, or maybe they found this was the best way to stop it getting cracked. Whatever the reason, it's great software, and the demo is fine for showing this.

I just installed the demo, and it clearly states that without a license, the application will expire in 30 days, in addition to the watermark. Extra measures means extra annoying. Neat app but I probably won't be purchasing either.

I thought about buying this and then heard how the developers basically disappeared after Leopard came out and provided no indication that they were working to fix all the issues people had with Pixelmator on Leopard. That really scares me...I'm not going to spend money on software when the developers leave the users in the dark for 2-3 weeks before popping up with a fix. They should structure themselves more like Ambrosia Software that creates iToner. They are constatly updating their customers to keep them up to date on what they are doing to fix the software.

I'm looking for a Photoshop replacement (honestly, it's too powerful for what I have to do and takes forever to load) but it looks like this isn't it. Already pretty negative feedback here backed by a few minutes of searching around. The watermark is especially annoying. I haven't seen something like this (I believe) since Paint Shop Pro back on Win98.

Seems to me that the developers behind Pixelmator are Watanabe wannabes. They put a nice UI on top of open source code other people have created and use all sorts of nagging limitation in the demo application. I have no stomach for these guys and out of principle will not support them and buy theire "stolen" code.

I agree. The watermark thing is just plain stupid. If these guys want to play with the big boys, they better start thinking like a real company.
I'll wait for the elements update and then compare.

using " " does not authorize you to lie.
it's not stolen code.
" " or not.
the licence of image magick allow the use to create an other software. why ? because authors wanted that.

a watermark is a great way to let you save picture to try the application, the features and let you decides to BUY IT FOR UNIVERSE'S SAKE !
why 30 days ? because one day or an other , you have to force people to buy it.

Watanabe is guilty to ask people to buy his products if people uses them. it's his total right.
developpers have the right to licence their code how they want
Freedom licence with protection to ensure it ? yeah
totally freedom and let people do anything nasty with it ? yeah
free source code but no right to do with it beyond use the binaries ? yeah
to ask money for the use and no source code to read ? yeah
to ask money and more money if you want to read the source code ? yeah !
it's a contract between you and the author. the author has the freedom to choose what he/she allows to do with his/her works
it's _good_
and YOU have the freedom to REFUSE to buy/get the product and so not use it.
Watanabe is right
Pixelmator's authors are right
Apple is right
Microsoft is Right
Free Software Foundation is right
FreeBSD is right
Adobe is right
and so on.

Pixelmator to do simple retouch is a nice software. but still I need functionalities available and simpler in GIMP.
too bad, because pixelmator has some nice tweaks to the interface (but the panels are totally wrong) and it can use core image (excellent).
Photoshop should do that.
Gimp should be a real native aqua application.

I haven't really used Pixelmator much since I'm a heavy Photoshop user. I am somewhat interested in Naked light however (naked.la). It seems like something useful and something I could recommend to other people because of the non-destructive editing and node-based layout. I'm anxious to try their beta.
Something I've noticed a lot of beginners have a problem with Photoshop is getting accustomed to using layers. I can't even imagine trying to teach a PS beginner to use Smart Objects. Hopefully this new crop of image editing software will lessen the learning curve for some people.

Wow, what a bunch of whiners about nothing.
Watermark shwatermark. Who cares? Try the program. If you like it, buy it. If you don't, don't. It only costs $59 for pete's sake!
Continue to waste 2 minutes opening photoshop.

Who cares? Apparently a lot of people. It's annoying, period. Try the program you say? Well, a lot of people feel that the watermark impairs that. You don't understand you say? I don't really care. It is a stupid business decision, and it looks like a lot of people feel the same way. They are losing customers and that is a fact.

No, just a handful of cheap jackasses who never would have paid in the first place. What are you, 8 years old?

Yeah, because people *legally* using Photoshop are cheap jackasses. What are you, a dumbass?
It's just bad business sense. I have 30 days to try out the demo, which is good. Time is money, especially creative time. I'm not going to put Pixelmator in my workflow though because any image it creates is useless. I don't have time to sit around and make play images. Give me 30 days to actually use the product, see how it feels in my day to day work, then maybe I'll buy it.
