Tekserve joins in the discount Friday fun
NYC's venerable Mac retailer Tekserve has posted a list of discounts for its post-Thanksgiving one day sale, available in person or on phone orders. The savings include a steep 30% discount on the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid and Turbo.264 units; a $300 savings on the previous-edition 24" iMac, $40 off a LaCie 160GB portable drive (first 50 customers only), and plenty more. The days of BARS may be well behind us (Before Apple Retail Stores), but Mac users of longer memories will recall how challenging it once was to find a storefront shop with the savvy, supply and sticking power to serve the Apple customer community. This holiday season, in addition to your shopping excursions to the mothership's outlets, please make an effort to support the remaining independent resellers who stood by the platform during the lean years.
Is your local indie Mac shop offering Friday sale discounts? Post a comment here to let us know and we'll summarize the sales on Friday morning.

If you recall, I simply started the whole comment by relaying my negative experiences with our local reseller. I was -then- accused of having a negative attitude, or being rude, or somehow causing this absurd behavior from the store.
So yeah, I get a little defensive and a little nasty. I'm actually a decent guy (by most people's account, anyway), but I don't sit back and let people make silly accusations.
As far as 'gleefully' waiting for him to go bankrupt? Nah. But based on the resellers constant whining in the media, and other people's experiences I know locally, the reseller is a bad business person, and a hindrance to my town getting either a better reseller or an Apple store.
Sorry I don't live in your world, where everyone is pleasant, and friendly, and helps out a stranger. My rose-colored glasses got driven over in the parking lot of my local Apple reseller....
I have to agree that Frank's comments, while logically driven seem nasty. I don't think it's a leap to say that you don't seem like a pleasant person from these comments, as you gleefully wait for someone to go bankrupt because he wouldn't give you an update disk.
That's rather extreme, IMO--I'm not saying you shouldn't express yourself, but it isn't surprising that folks are "judging" you from your words.
Ha, nothing to warm the holiday spirit like a flame war! ;)
Our local Apple reseller is debuting their "Outlet Center", a place to find deals on refurbished older and last generation Macs & accessories, this weekend. They have everything from G4 iBooks to G5 PowerMacs to the last generation iMacs, starting at $399. Several of the machines even have Applecare left on them and their original boxes.
If you're in the Louisville area be sure to swing by MacAuthority (128 Breckenridge Ln) and see what kind of deals they have going on Friday and Saturday. A nice touch is that you won't have to fight the mall crowds just to get your Mac fix ;)

Oh, Mac Diva, you MUST have done something to cause that behavior. People aren't rude like that for no reason......
November 22 2007 at 7:54 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMy opinion of the University of Portland computer store is quite the opposite of a previous commenter's. The manager is one of the rudest people I have ever met. Some years ago, I was forced to leave my backpack in a box there. Someone stole the backpack, which contained some newly purchased books from the store. The manager behaved as if I had done something wrong, even refusing to allow me to replace the books despite my having a receipt to prove the purchases. I have not bought anything from there in years.
So, this notion of employees of independent stores caring more about their customers than corporate stores is not necessarily so.
The local retailer here in Athens, PeachMac, just sent out an email offering $20 off Leopard and $20 off iPods on Friday only. They have been great to us since they opened in May and we will be there Friday to take advantage of this deal.

Personally, I am not a fan of the flame war that has erupted here (mea culpa: I contributed to it), and it's contrary to the point of the comments for this article.
So, I'll say that in Vancouver, there's no indication of any special deals. Likely because we are in Canada and our Thanksgiving was a while ago. But just to be sure, I called the two main Apple retailers in town and got complete confusion from one ("Why would we have a sale in the middle of November?!") and a fairly succinct "No." from the other.
Guess I'll order from Apple US Store.
Gee, thanks. Based on your string of comments, you have obviously mastered the art of judging people you have never met.

November 21 2007 at 8:09 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyJackass. Sycophantic? Geez. Just what advantage am I trying to gain by wishing a bad retailer out of business? You realize I didn't give their name, right? Go pull at your pants, you pent-up wannabe.
