Apple posts new iTunes ad

If you've been watching TV during the last few days chances are you have already seen this: Apple has released a new iTunes commercial. The new commercial features Mary J. Blige singing 'Work That' out while those iconic silhouette dancers dance around with hip mounted iPods (not an iPhone in sight!).
What do you think about these iPod/iTunes ads? Still cool, or is it time for Apple to come up with something fresh? Sound off in the comments.

I saw this during The Simpsons last Sunday. First thing that came to my mind: eww!

The originals were good. The salsa spinoff one with bright colors was good. This one... not so much.

These ads have me scrambling for the mute button. While I can appreciate some people enjoy that particular genre of music, I find it nauseating. Beyond that, seeing people dancing in an incredibly creepy way isn't selling me anything, and I own both an iPhone and an iPod. If I didn't, this ad would do more to turn me away than bring me in.

the old fogies who can't enjoy fresh sound will shun this - but i think the evolution these ads have made is fantastic.
what would you geezers prefer, an old man demoing the iPhone to some lame orba square song? yes, probably.

shouldn't those be grey ipods? they don't make white ones, unless there still using the 5th gen's in the commercials?

I like the commercial just fine, but yeah the overall concept is getting kind of old. I mean I understand it's a chance to also do some cross promotion but I'd like to see something new out of this.

Amazing, still.
Each one is so different, they make me want to grab my iPod and bust a few moves.

@ Rob (The armchair racist)
I guess people don't find kkkountry music or rock nauseating either. The world is a much bigger place than the little hick town or trailer community you might be from.

The music in these ads lately has really sucked. I can't remember actually the last time an itunes ad featured a decent song...

I generally like this style of ads, but the music for this one sucks. And her hair just looks really tacked on the way the ad is stylized.

As far as I can remember, it was "Love Train" by Wolfmother, at least in my opinion. And that was a long long time ago

first off hating and name calling or busting on people's music preference shouldn't be the reason why you don't like this ad. Personally, could care less for miss bliege...but that's my opinion. No need to call someone a trailer trash country hick. As far as commercials go apple has done a lot to brand themselves in terms of their iPod commercials. So much so that they have been immortalized in legos. I never really saw the ad as being the white iPod, but more of a silouetted person, that the end viewer would put themselves in the commercial. The iPod standing out to show off the contours of the product. Besides, a gray iPod touch wouldnt work on black silouetted people.
Is it old? Maybe.
Is it recognizable? You be the judge.

I love the commercials, but I've never suddenly felt the urge to dance around like that while using my iPod. Maybe I should have a genius take a look at it...

iPod commercial featuring The Fratellis. That got me dancing. And got me to get their album. Also the commercial I liked best.
It's true the music isn't the best in this one, but the graphic effects are drop-dead gorgeous. The sparkle and gold is really pretty. I watched it a couple times online just to enjoy the visuals. With this one, you almost don't notice the ipods because the rest is so stunning (minus the song).
Maybe it's time for something new, but I think with the right music and dance moves they could continue to use this style of commercial. Everyone knows this is the "ipod commercial".

This ad does nothing for me. The music is too 90's and played out. "Work that" Yeah. What what? It's meaningless claptrap that I can't relate to.
Apple is slowly becoming out of touch with culture. The only people I know who listen to Mary J. Blige are middle-aged, divorced females with a drinking problem. And those cougars are rocking Zunes or some other 3rd-rate products.
Swing.. and miss.

Actually....just watched it two more times...the music isn't that bad, it just could be a more upbeat selection. Actually, this commercial is quite saucy. That's what I like about it. iPod dancers strutting in classy boots. It's just kinda hot. :)

I'm just going to go ahead and say the obvious. All of the above commenters are white. While I don't particularly care for the song, its meaning is simply stated in the first line where she says something about too many women denying themselves full expression of themselves. It ends with a shout almost, of work what you got... a call back to everything from Virginia Slims you've come along a way, to use what you got to get what you want...So I think semoitically, the song works, and the kids still seem to like mary j, and chicks I like to look at still like her, so... anyway, neither here nor there.
I never liked these ads, and they really need to stop. (I didn't own an ipod until they bundled it into my Iphone... I need more memory - 220gigs... you said all my music well come on then!)
