Xserve Lights-Out Management Firmware Update 1.1 available
Apple released Xserve Lights-Out Management Firmware Update 1.1 on Thursday. It's for Intel-based Xserves only, and will update your firmware to version 1.2.8. The Xserve I manage at work is a G5, so no update for me. Here's what I'm missing, according to Apple:"This update includes changes to the Lights-Out Management environment of the Intel-based Xserve. It addresses the intermittent issue that causes the LOM port to be unresponsive. This update is strongly recommended for all Intel-based Xserve systems."

You're not actually missing anything - G5 Xserves don't have LOM.

Thank god.. LOM was pretty unreliable. Hopefully i can actually count on this to restart a crashed server that's a 45 minute drive away.

"The Xserve I manage at work is a G5" - Since you're managing servers, I assume you're Appled certified. What certification(s) do you have and how hard/easy/etc was it to get it/them? Is there any way you guys could do a post or different section/feature that talks about your Apple and/or other certification holdings? That would be cool...for me at least, as I'm on a trek to get a few Apple certifications myself.

It's about time that apple addressed this considering the extensive discussions as to how badly it's broken in the initial release and the near-denial of any issues from apple themselves.
While I'm more than happy to finally have a solution, reliably being able to tell the status of servers' hardware would seem to be a priority rather than the afterthought it's been treated as.
