Skype joins the Leopard party
If you're a Leopard-using Skype lover, you've been without the quintessential Voice over IP service since the Skype Mac blog announced there were a few issues with Skype on Leopard last month. However, Skype has released a new version of their Mac client which not only fixes these Leopard niggles, but also adds a shiny new feature to the fold: VGA (640x480) video is now enabled by default, and at 25 frames per second too - meaning that cross-platform video chats just got more detailed.Of course, there is just one downside: the current Leopard-compatible version is still a beta, so if you're scared of pre-release software, then this isn't for you. If you fancy living life on the wild side, so to speak, then the 34MB download is available from the Skype for Mac site.

I never knew there were any issues. I've been using skype with leopard since a couple days after leopard was released. I haven't run into any trouble in voice or video chat.

Nice and quick response from Skype. Old Skype was popping a fufu valve (possibly) thanks to Leopard's firewall tweaks.
Quick Q - Leopard is being very Vista-like and asking me to allow Skype to have incoming connections every time I open it. I have changed the Firewall settings to allow incoming connections for Skype, but it still asks me every time I open Skype. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

yeah .. people are even downgrading their OS version (by downgrading I mean upgrading to a previous version more familiar to the user) ... Yep I went back frol Leopard to this shyny tiger ... Some of my pro apps (Protools) were not working with this new big cat ...

Ben, it's not Leopard. It's Skype. Please don't jump on the Loepard-is-the-new-Vista bandwagon because Skype took six months to release an update (I don't think that's a quick response).
Skype is happy to be making big bucks without support or frequent updates. If it works, you're lucky. BTW, Skype betas will always be buggy, watch out.
and for the rest of you spoiled brats out there, you should probably make it habit to wait a few months before upgrading your OS. Tiger had just as many rough edges when it was released, and that hardly compares to the nightmare that is Vista, even today, almost a year later.

Gr. The new Skype uses nearly 100% of one of my processors (MacBook, Core Duo), apparently in an effort to output 640x480, even though they say my spec isn't up to it. The result, apart from wailing fans, is that the picture was about a second behind the sound the whole time (according to my interlocutor). Once again, time to roll Skype back; at least I've long learned not to overwrite the older version ...

@Robogobo
I'm in no way saying Leopard is the new Vista - apart from a few little 3rd party niggles, it's running really well on my G4 powerbook. My 'Vista-like' comparison was simply that it was giving me the 'Deny or Allow" option every time I opened Skype. Hopefully new beta version fixes this.
Am glad I did make the Leopard jump, some of the new features are brilliant
