Breaking: VOIP on iPod touch

Remember Marian, the guy who's building a preamped mic mike for the iPod touch? Today he writes that touch hacker eok has ported Samuel's SvSIP to the iPod. SvSIP uses the SIP protocol to connect to other participants and to allow you to talk over WiFi. I tried porting SIP myself and didn't get very far.

Marian writes that eok has been able to both send and receive calls and promises screen shots as soon as possible.

I am just curious as to why there has been no mention about this project since the release date 01/01 of the sip-voip app from the touchmods team.
They were kind enough to give you one of the first mics that was produced and I am sure that they have kept you up-to-date on everything.
Why are they being ignored?
I am a loyal supporter to their cause and I am doing my best to get their word out. Just curious as to why you have seemed to have turned your back on them.
If you haven't I do apologize however, I do think that they deserve some mention as their product and app has revolutionized the way that we look at the ipod touch.
Funny thing is the last mention that I heard about this subject was some no body finding a walmart version of a dongle.
This is not the real news and I think that everyone here knows that.

Just my 0.02 worth.

I wonder if EOK is the one developing that on board batteryless
friction generator for all portable
divices. WOW!(no more battres?) If so, I think that's definitely E-OK,
Electronically OK and Environmentally OK,

To all of the negative thinkers posting here. What about using this as a replacement for your home phone service? I have both cell phones and a home service. Can't imagine anything much cooler than an iPod Touch as a dedicated house phone.

I am really impressed on what the hackers can do with the Ipot. Its just a matter of time when we can use the Ipot to make phone calls!

To all hackers, you truly make life easier! (and cheaper :P)

Thanks alot!!

This is awesome news, I love stuff like this and have been wondering myself if there was some type of mod/hack to make skype work on an ipod touch.

SIP VoIP on iPhone - http://dailybuzz.mobuzz.tv/shows/we_watch_as_truphone_puts

My assessment is that we would appear to be some way ahead of the iPod Touch team at the moment. I would very much like to discuss cooperation - ontact me (on my mobile phone) - SIP:james.body@truphone.com

The fact you can achieve SIP calls with a MP3 player is interesting.
Nevertheless, your examples are bad.
-Students will just use a regular microphone
-Business environment already means much more reliable devices like Blackberry or solid alternative like E-series from nokia.
Consider the technology itself, forget about the usability of such a thing.
I won't even talk about the fact that WiFi hot spots aren't spread enough to be trusted as a T-mobile, ATT & stuffs replacement.

Malcolm OS X--

You know... People do this all the time, I realize that it's not your fault necessarily--Society has become conditioned to think and speak illy of car sales people, but that doesn't make it right.

I am in the car business, and I resent your comment. I am fair and honest, and yet, I am also very good at what I do. Imagine that, an honest salesperson that is successful, eh?

Oh and by the way, I run the sales department. I am the sales manager at my dealership, and this is the only way of doing business that I will accept from my salespeople.

Please shed the stereotypes in the future, mkay?
