Apple posts Santa Claus Get A Mac ad

Apple has posted a special Christmas flavored Get A Mac ad. This ad, as you can see above, features a stop motion-esque (I'm going to assume that they are actually CGI) PC, Mac, and Santa singing a little Christmas carol for you. PC makes sure to let you know to never buy a Mac, or else Santa might not like you.
Thanks, Matthew.

@geochick (#24): I think you underestimate the power of advertising. Regulary people seeing these ads over and over again will make them laugh, and remember these ads. Then, when the time comes to buy a new computer, they'll consider apple.
Maybe they won't buy from apple, but they'll at least check it out. And a certain percent of those people will buy a mac. It'll all about apple just getting it's name out there.
Can someone fill me in on the anti-Apple advertising I presume the PC industry must have been doing in order to provoke this response from Apple?

I just find them a funny distraction when I need a break for the most part and so does my PC-loving/PC-buying friends. You like what you like and buy what you want or what you can afford when all is said and done.
LOL
"I guess you have to be in your 30's to get it. Still a funny ad."
Pretty much every kid has seen these Christmas classics. If not, man, your folks are not doing a good job of giving you a childhood. I don't care if you don't celebrate Christmas, or if there's no TVs in you village, man. That's part of being a kid!
As one who directs and animates computer generated commercials, I knew this definitely wasn't CG upon first viewing. Instead, it's a brilliant homage to Rankin/Bass.

Apple should stop dissing pc's... I'm getting a little shamed sometimes when I look at these commercials...
"Pc is beeing the wise-ass for promoting his stuff" ??
While Apple now a days just makes commercials to tell pc he is to commercial and perhaps even lame...
I thinks it a bit jubanile.
Definitely not 3D. The guys at Laika are really good at doing really smooth Stop-motion.

Those of you who find Rankin-Bass parodies nostalgic should also check out the AFLAC commercial featuring Rudolph:

The Office Max Rubberband Man Xmas ad was also spot on:

A bit older than that Ian, try 1964! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rankin_Bass#Rudolph
Great ad, love when Hodgman goes "Oooooooh, c'mon, Ohhh"
Wow, I didn't think it went back that far. Very cool that you were able to find the date and director/history on Rankin-Bass :) and I forgot about the little dentist kid. Weird but definitely sentimental.
It really is amazing what GE has had their hands in over the years.
I do love the line about "he sees you when you're in sleep mode". A nod to computer nerds everywhere. So funny.
Folks, this is a play on the old Christmas special from the '80 (maybe even late '70) where Rudolf, Santa, some weird rock climbing guy and the abominable snowman were shot in cheesy, stop motion.
I am sure it was cutting edge at the time but it ran every year at christmas for years and got pretty stale after a decade or so.
I guess you have to be in your 30's to get it. Still a funny ad.
