This SRS iWOW 2.0.2.255 sucks ass!. This horrible plug-in kept freezing my MBP (Intel-based Nov 2007). The most miserable 20 dollars I've ever spent. For days I kept trying on and off; Installed = freezing, Uninstalled = working properly. No wonder they've reduce the price. Try at your own risk, but DO NOT buy. It's useless!, and it doesn't even improve sound, at all. Disgusting.
February 27 2008 at 1:14 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI really used to like the sound enhancements produced by SRS iWOW v1.+, which I installed on my G4 running under the "Tiger" OS. After upgrading to an Intel Mac with the "Leopard" OS, I was eagerly awaiting a version that would work on my new Mac. When v2.0 was released, I bought and installed it the same day.
To my great regret, upon enabling the software it immediately produced a very high amplitude noise (resembling a super-loud, 60 cycle A.C. hum) which, in the few seconds it took to find and punch the "mute" button on my keyboard, trashed one of my fairly new, BOSE "Companion 3" satellite speakers.
BEWARE: Although SRS iWOW, ver. 2.0.2.255 appears to work fine with the Intel iMacs and with the Leopard OS, if you were to plug in a Bose Companion 3 Series II speaker system, you'd definitely be running a great risk of ruining one or both of your satellite speakers within a very few seconds.
I used to be incredibly enthusiastic about iWOW when it was featured with the earlier MU Promo/MacHeist Skunk Works bundle, but now I'm not so sure - it almost seems like audio snake oil; still it's free, and it adds more volume and bass to my music (for some reason, audio on my MacBook still seems tinny, even with headphones) so I'm not upset.
No, what really sours me on iWOW is its Microsoft-like product activation scheme...
to pcx: If you don't like it don't buy it.
To the average computer user the applications included in the bundle, now 11 for $50 bucks is a good deal.
You get Rapidweaver, yep!, pulpmotion, iStabilizer and Forklift, (the 5 most practical apps) and you get 6 other apps. Great deal if you ask me.
I bought it for me and a for a friend of mine. We are both happy with it because we could get an affordable solution to building websites and publishing them.
My .o2 cents
Still just another crappy marketing scheme like macheist. Not exactly an overly impressive lineup of apps anyway.
