Worst. iPod. Accessories. Ever

Podcasting news has put together a helpful guide to the most impossibly bad iPod accessories. These include the "Rock My Teeth" tooth whitening appliance shown here as well as the Griffin iBeam--perfect for frying your retinas, and the iFrogz Tadpole case that allows your toddlers to throw their iPods around like frisbees.

Be aware, some of the items listed are not safe for work, and the hilarity of the other items may cause physical injury.

I actually relly like the Frogz Tadpole. It's been great on roadtrips with my four-year-old. Most people are rightfully afraid to let preschoolers play with an ipod, but in the right context under supervision, it really isn't a problem, in fact, it's helpful.

The worst accessory on ALL pre-2007 ipods is the HOLD SWITCH at the top.

Worst. Design. Decision. Ever.
Steve Jobs should be hung twice for that one...

I mean WTF!

I've got to fight like hell to turn my damn pods off.
They simply won't obey.
Meanwhile that mechanical slider at the top--which I NEVER use--would function just perfect as an ON/OFF switch.

I curse Jobs out almost daily on that design decision...

Thank god the iTouch doesn't duplicate that blunder.

I thought the Tadpole was a good idea for road trips or plane flights. If they made one for the Touch I'd probably get it (but needs some impact protection for the screen.)

I gotta agree with the inclusion of the socks -- not for the product, that's not half bad, I suppose -- but the price. I'm usually game for over-paying for something just because it's cute/has an Apple logo (what, I'm being honest) - but a sock for my Nano that cost $6 a piece (set of 5 is $30), umm, no. $30 for 20 cents worth of fabric (that is little more than elastic and some sort of polyblend) is where I draw the line.

iBuzz is nothing. The company that created the rival Ohmibod gave me two free samples to give away for a website competition I held. The winners loved them and apparently the ohmibod is one of the best toys available.

Who am I to argue?

I will also endorse the socks. I bought a set for a girlfriend, she loved them. She carried her iPod in a bag with lots of other stuff, they were a cutesy way to keep it from getting banged up, and they delivered on that goal in spades. Frankly, compared to the hideous and frustrating silicone cases and multitudes of other questionable products out there for protecting your iPod, the socks rank respectably with me for being effective and simple with some semblance of style.

I also own the Griffin iBeam set. Practical? No. Entertaining, oh yes. The iBeam laser became my cat's favorite item in the house, and cat+laser beam equals hilarity every time. She can hear the barely audible noise made by taking the protective cap off of it to hook it to my iPod, it's quite amusing. I carried the flashlight bit in my bag for a long time and never once came upon a reason to use it. Honestly, they fell right inside my zero-thought impulse-buy category.
