Listen up iPod nano (3rd Generation), iPod Classic and 5th Generation iPod owners! Your ability to abstain from buying iPod games could be challenged, for Apple have quietly released Sonic the Hedgehog for your favorite pocket music players. Yes, Sonic the Hedgehog. I can wait here -- you go celebrate this gaming icon making it to Cupertino via the iTunes Store. You're back? Excellent. Complete with MIDI-esque soundtrack for true 'throw-back-to-Sonic's-golden-era' effect, this new game will cost you $4.99 / £3.99 (yes, almost $8 - pity us Brits) or €4,99 via the iTunes Store and is available now; there's also the usual gifting option, should there be an iPod user in your life you've yet to find gift inspiration for.

I was excited to get the game, so I downloaded it right away.
Turns out the game controls are awful. I tried both settings, and both ways the game was virtually impossible to play. Bleck.
Too bad.

How could it _not_ work on the 5th gens; they seem like the same functionality to me. Man, if this was available for my iPhone as well, I'd be all over it.
And yes, I spend tens of thousands, being a Apple corporate account. And personally. Yeah, better listen up, Apple!!! :D

Ummm... I've been playing it all-day on my 60GB 5G iPod. Controls are frustrating at times, and it has strange pauses once in a while (Probably caused by the music), but is a good game nonetheless.

Well, that's why I asked; the specs don't mention the 5G, unless I miss something. Has it smoothed out without music?

Nice! Lately I've been playing sonic a lot too on my PS3 (playing the PS2 Sonic Collections). i'd be up for getting this for my recently bought iPod Nano, but I don't understand how it would be controlled.

Boo hiss. How can this not work on an iPod Touch?

No games work on the Touch. It's a totally different operating system than on the regular iPods.
Although I'm sure it's only a matter of time before a Genesis emulator is available. They somehow skipped over that one and went straight to the PS1!
