Apple revs security updates to fix Safari crashing bug

If you already installed either Security Update 2007-009 or Safari 3 Beta 3.0.4 Security Update for Windows, you may have noticed a wee bit of instability in Safari post-update. The behavior in question is euphemistically described by Apple as "an unexpected termination of the Safari application when browsing to certain web sites," or translated into English: Safari go boom now.

Fortunately, before heading out to celebrate Christmas with their long-suffering families, Apple security engineers cranked out 1.1 updates to both the recent security patches, available for download now. If your Safari experience hasn't been all it can be since the updates, try the new patch versions and see if they improve matters.

Hi there
Just installed the update. The Jaiku badge on my site is no longer interactive.

Just be extra careful before installing this one... I got caught in the Setup Assistant loop from Hell on my iMac- thankfully I was able to open the previous article on how to escape the loop (Safe Mode) on my MacBook, and all is right in the world...

I just installed the update on my MacBook Pro and it wouldn't shut down. All the icons on my desktop disappeared and I got an endless beach ball. I let it sit there for about an hour. I could hit the power button for a second and the Shut Down dialog would appear. I clicked shutdown but it still wouldn't.
I killed the power, but now on reboot I get the Mac OS X Setup Assistant.
I have been having tons of problems with Leopard on 3 different computers. Very disappointed recently with the decline in quality of Apple products.
I'm on my other Mac now. I did not install the update yet. I think I'll wait.

I've gotten so used to Safari crashing, it's almost a feature now.

Not to change subjects on you, but do you know when Apple will introduce the Intel 45nm Penryn chips to its MacBook Pro lineup?

What revision is the latest? On my Intel Mac I have 3.0.4 (5523.10.6).

That's the current version of Safari, but the revised patch affects the underlying WebKit build.
