1Password updated to 2.5.8

Today, Agile Web Solutions updated their password manager, 1Password. As many Mac users may already know, 1Password is an indispensable application for managing passwords and browser auto-fill for Mac OS X. Now that it has been updated to version 2.5.8, it boasts some new features along with bug fixes.

New in 1Password 2.5.8 is support for the Firefox 3 beta; you're now able to import from Passwords Plus and Password Safe 3, and you can now store UK bank account information.

1Password is available for $29.95 from the 1Password website, and a demo is also available.

Let me just say that Roustem and the gang are the best of developers out there! You really do get more than your $'s worth of software, excellent support AND development, plus they have a great attitude and work-ethic. We use their software for both home and work, and couldn't live without 1Password!

Note from the developer: We received several reports about the problem with automatic backup in version 2.5.8 today. While we weren't able to reproduce this problem locally it should now be fixed in 2.5.9.BETA-1 build.

If you experience this problem, please download the build from
http://1password.com/dist/1Password-2.5.9.BETA-1.dmg

As a bonus you will also get a preview of the new Password Strength feature :)

Can anyone confirm if 1password allows for multiple user IDs and passwords for a single webpage, like a single webmail login page that serves multiple accounts or a website hosting login page where several accounts can be accessed?

Surprisingly, Safari cannot do this - it only remembers one ID/pass set per web page (which sincerely stinks). I hate to say it, but even IE can handle this basic task.

Jason,

Yes, 1password can save multiple entries for the same form.

I find 1password absolutely invaluable. I use it to generate (extremely) strong passwords and archive them for me. Add on to that its ability to maintain multiple identities for filling out shopping carts and other forms, as well as securely store credit card information and autofill credit card inputs and it becomes something I wouldn't want to live without. Plus there's a web app version (with strong encryption) in beta now, too.

Genuine question - if my main browser is Safari what does 1Password do so much better than KeychainAccess that makes it worth $30?

1Password works across browsers so you have all your passwords available for Firefox if Safari doesn't work. To me it is more organized in storing password data than Keychain, certainly easier to retrieve. You can autofill personal and credit card info. Also can store secure notes such as software registrations. I've used it for about a year and seems worthwhile. Their user forum is probably one of the best. - ralph
