OnyX 1.9

A new year, a new software update. The creators of OnyX and Maintenance, Titanium Software, updated OnyX today. As you probably know already, OnyX is the ultimate Mac customization / optimization utility. In addition to this new version being completely re-written, there are also some bug fixes which include:
  • Enable/disable Journaling
  • Enable/disable iChat Data Detectors
  • Hide the icon of Spotlight in the menu bar
  • Deleting the Conversations log of instant messaging
  • Resetting the Sidebar of Finder windows
  • Some bugs of the previous beta corrected
I am sure that to avid users of OnyX this update is welcomed with open arms. If you haven't checked out OnyX before, what a better time than now? You can get your system tweaked and running smoothly for 2008! OnyX is available as freeware from Titanium Software or Mac Update.

I think this corrupted my user account, and I didn't change anything. This was the last app I installed. I placed my system to sleep that night after finishing some development work in Flash. then when I returned to the room I noticed the crash screen, prompting me to restart.

I restart, my user account would not load and unknown became the only account. So i did an archive and install to recover anything from my system partition. Now i can't get the privileges on my other partition to behave properly. I have to set Everyone to read and write to have things work normal. Adding my acout or Admin doesn't even make a difference.

Thank the lord; I have been waiting for this since my leopard began to slow down, not having the guts to try the beta

Good that it's free. Older versions (and probably this one; anyone know if I'm wrong?) did nothing more that expose 'defaults write' options.

Note that this release is 10.5–only. It would've been a good idea for the devs to number it as an x.0 release. The MacUpdate page has links to versions for earlier OS X versions.

How does this compare to Cocktail?

This does what CockTail does but more and it's free. This has become a must have, cannot live without app for my Mac. Onyx and 4GB of RAM on my new MacBook, what a great marriage. (^__^)

Cool, it lets you install wherever you want! (Nice for keeping that Applications stack clean and organized.)
