MsgFiler 2.0.1 is ready

Email jockeys, this one is for you (as long as you use Apple's Mail, that is). Adam Tow has updated MsgFiler to version 2.0.1. For the uninitiated (we've written about it before), MsgFiler is a Mail plug-in that lets you sort, search and assign messages to mailbox folders with a few keystrokes. It's very fast (watch the demo movie here) and keeps things tidy.

When a new message arrives (or group of messages), simply press Command-9 to bring up the MsgFiler window. Select the messages you'd like to move, type the name of the destination folder and hit Enter. That's it! You're messages are sorted.

Version 2.0.1 has been totally rewritten in Cocoa. It requires Mac OS 10.4.8 and costs $8US.

I suspect folks out there who get high volumes of email find it easier and/or faster to keep their hands on the keyboard, rather than reach for the mouse dozens of times in a row. Also, many laptop users prefer keyboard-based interfaces as it lessens the need for using the trackpad.

To each his own - everyone feels comfortable with different input/manipulation methods. I like using the keyboard because it just feels faster to me. I might try this, my inbox is a mess.

is it me, or are a lot of these so-called 'productivity' apps more trouble than they're worth? how is using this product easier than control-clicking (within mail) on the messages you want to move and selecting the appropriate mailbox? or simply dragging them over?

This is my favorite add-on for Mail.app, and this new version is super fast and works great with Leopard!
