Here's a nifty idea to add a little organization to your Finder sidebar. Since it does not natively support separators, one fellow decided to hack up a solution by creating some fake applications whose icons are transparent and whose names consist of line characters. You can then drag and drop these on the sidebar to give the desired effect. It's a small thing, but a nice one for keeping your Finder sidebar visually tidy. The package also contains a nifty little AppleScript application that will launch the Terminal at the location of a folder dropped on it.

great idea - and it also works for Safari bookmarks menu - or did I miss something that I can add separators like in Firefox in my bookmarks menu?

Very neat. Unfortunately, the sidebars are something else that are much worse in 10.5 than 10.4.
- icons are smaller -- why? big = easy-to-hit
- multiple shares on the same volume don't get individual icons--again, why?!?
- I DON'T like the expanding/collapsing thing--the whole reason to put things in the ALWAYS-PRESENT sidebar because I ALWAYS want to see them--duh!
The sidebar and the Dock: Apple REALLY broke CORE PARTS of the Finder--a CORE PART of the whole freakin' OS--in 10.5.

How did you get downloads to have a permanent home under documents?

Just drag the downloads folder from the finder main window to the sidebar, as you would do with this separator hack.

I used to do the same thing under OS9 for the Apple menu. Of course, that was back when you could actually customize the Apple menu. I miss MY Apple menu.
I remember an Apple rep explaining to us why they took that feature away. He said it was because people kept putting everything in the Apple menu and it "got out of hand." WTF? Whose computer is this?!
Ever since NeXt came on board (and presumably with their Unix-minded developers), Mac people have had to endure the big-brother attitude of these people. Apple is slowly becoming The Man.
