Elgato to release EyeTV 3.0 on Tuesday
Expect a huge EyeTV upgrade this Tuesday. TUAW has learned that Elgato plans to release EyeTV 3.0 on Keynote day. The upgrade will be paid (free updates for anyone who bought EyeTV 2 or a tuner after Dec 1 2007) and promises lots of new features. I'm a huge EyeTV fan--I bought mine last year during their Macworld special--and am looking forward to seeing what the Elgato guys have packed into this release.

I really liked EyeTV. But since I bought the diversity stick and installed version 3.0 my machine freezes completely from time to time. Even remote login is not possible anymore.

About time. I'm an eyeTV user for the better part of a year now, and I have to say, their software sucks. My only complaint about a potential update is that "paid" part. THEY should pay ME for suffering along with their shovelware, and writing my own AppleScripts to make up for the severe deficiencies in their software.
Here's hoping this version doesn't suck, and doesn't cost too much. If only there were other options...

Jon,
What is it that doesn't work well for you? I've been using EyeTV 2 since it came out and have upgraded to the present version and all the time I've had it freeze on me only once
Your post suggests it's been a buggy ride for you, what specifically didn't work well? Sometimes sharing the problem can prompt others from suggesting a solution!

I hate the eyeTV software, it sucks, flatout. the software will just randomly freeze, requiring a full reboot of the computer, and usually I have to do another reboot after that because it will have a black screen.

I have been using ElGato EyeTV for over 3 years now and it has worked great for me -
the only thing I have had a problem with is the Channel Line up in my area not syncing up properly

Blah... if it's 80 bucks I'll stick with Version2.

Actually, if it's $80, one might as well just buy another Hybrid for $100

AppleTV rumors, EyeTV upgrade on the same day... most likely a coincidence, but who know with Mr Jobs and his RDF warming up?

Well, I've always hoped for Front Row integration, so if they have this my credit card will be pulled out. Otherwise, I'm not sure there's too much they could do.

Damn damn damn damn damn!
I waited years to upgrade my EyeTV because I refused to pay the exorbitant price for the upgrade from 1.x to 2.0. Finally I wanted new hardware, so I bought a new one. In NOVEMBER!!!
This update better do my laundry and file my taxes for me if they intend to charge the same price as the last one.

Does anyone know if this will be just a software update? Or are they planning on releasing all new versions of Hybrid, etc.?

EyeTV desperately needs Front Row integration and some sort of "Season Pass"-esque feature. My life is way too busy to manually schedule recordings every few days ... and the lack of this type of feature has mad me miss my Tivo ... as much as I hated it.
It would be VERY simple for Elgato to implement. Just let me make a list of the TV shows that I want to record, in order of priority. When the shows come up in TitanTV (which EyeTV already checks automatically) they will be scheduled for recording ... if a show conflicts EyeTV will grant priority to the ones to the top of the list.
Also should have some kind of auto-delete feature where if I run out of hard drive space my old shows start getting deleted to make room for new shows.
Don't get me wrong, I love my EyeTV. I'd just like it to do a little more of the work for me and have some features that are long overdue. Here's hoping for at least some of those in 3.0 ... especially if it's going to cost me to upgrade.

Awesome. I just got EyeTV Hybrid in June of 2007, so I qualify for the free upgrade.

Wrong. You were about 6 months too early.

Diversity tuners haven't worked properly for at least one point revision (see their forums) in EyeTV, should of sorted this before bringing out a paid whole version update. EyeTV software either works fine, or has no end of problems, Elgato need to sort this out, after all, they built there name on being a quality software developer, which they aren't anymore in my eyes.

It will just be an update, a software update. You'll probably get in EyeTV.
