Elgato to release EyeTV 3.0 on Tuesday

Expect a huge EyeTV upgrade this Tuesday. TUAW has learned that Elgato plans to release EyeTV 3.0 on Keynote day. The upgrade will be paid (free updates for anyone who bought EyeTV 2 or a tuner after Dec 1 2007) and promises lots of new features. I'm a huge EyeTV fan--I bought mine last year during their Macworld special--and am looking forward to seeing what the Elgato guys have packed into this release.

I really liked EyeTV. But since I bought the diversity stick and installed version 3.0 my machine freezes completely from time to time. Even remote login is not possible anymore.

CANADIANS NOT SUPPORTED!
Any Canadian wishing to buy an Elgato product should be aware that EYETV does NOT support scheduling information in Canada. While Elgato claims they have been "working on it" no solution has been offered. This situation has been going on for YEARS. Even with the latest release of EyeTV 3, there is still no Canadian schedule integration.
Not having the scheduling function support severely cripples the otherwise wonderful software that this company has built.
Canadians should do a little research and consult the Elgato discussion forums to read threads on this subject and give Elgato some much needed feedback.

Well, it isn't a remote control I'm worried about; it's an IR blaster. But some poking around suggests that the EyeTV is compatible with two, although they're sold separately and seem to work most but not all of the time.

I'll certainly wait for the reviews given EyeTV users' often less-than-enthusiastic comments to date, but I really hope this is the Tivo killer the AppleInsider writeup make it looks like. God, I hate Tivo. I'm still finding new bugs in 9.1 and it was released last Fall, even with scores of bugs already confirmed in the TivoCommunity.com thread. (Tivo's official comment is that these are "nuisances" and not "failures" and will be fixed in the next scheduled update.)

But... I do need an IR blaster. Does EyeTV have or work with one?

I've had no issues with EyeTV2 (been using since around 1.8 when the ATI All-in-Wonder 2.0 was out) but if appleinsider is right this will definitely be worth it

I've had an eyeTV for a few years now, bought the 2.0 upgrade, and used it for a few days. It really can't compare to TiVo, imo. Maybe someday I'll have a place big enough that the TV and computer won't be in the same room, or a Mac powerful enough to watch TV on a 2nd screen while playing WoW on the main screen. Until then though, it'll remain the dusty little box shoved under my computer desk.

I had lots of trouble w/ eyeTV 2.31b but once it went to 2.5 it's been smooth sailing. I love this software; it has never crashed on me yet (4 months running). I hope v3.0 has better support for dual tuners!
MacMini 10.4.9 (Intel Core Duo 1.67)
External 500GB harddrive (Lasie)
Miglia TVMax analog tuner
Elgato Hybrid digital tuner

I bought a eyeTV the day leopard came out along with a mac mini. I think it is an absolute disgrace that they are charging money for this next software upgrade. Can you only use this software with their hardware or will eyeTV work with other TV tuners? Even if this is the case and you can use the software with other tuners I find this 'paid' update akin to a slap in the face with a wet fish!
