While we wait for Apple to cram a TV tuner or cable card into the Apple TV (don't hold your breath-- seriously), El Gato continues to pump out some nice hardware/software tools for watching the tube on your Mac. One thing that caught my eye: you can start distributing recorded live video around your house 30 seconds or so after the EyeTV starts recording a show. I remember when we had to rig some VLC nonsense together to get livestreaming on a remote machine with the old EyeTV. Oh, and they've apparently added something very similar to the Season Pass feature on Tivo, which is quite cool.Check out a nice demo after the jump.

For people who have been wanting EyeTV and Front Row integration, check out my (free) EyeTV Front Row plugin. It's still under active development, (and development help is appreciated), but it does allow access to EyeTV from Front Row.

This works with EyeTV2 or EyeTV3. See also my commercial marking/skipping plugin at :

Follow development of both at:

This looks really nice, but does anybody know how to get the upgrade to EyeTV3 from 2? I bought mine a week or so before Macworld (newbie mistake I know) and now I sit with old software and I thought I had read that people like me would get a free upgrade to the new version. Any help would be great thanks!

Joseph,
On Elgato's home page, their is a note indicating for users who have purchased after Dec 1st, you get a free upgrade. Just fill out their form - requires your serial number.
The upgrade is just one step closer to not needing a DVR. However, without cable cards, I guess you can't get premium channels you subscribe too, like HBO.

I have to say I love EyeTV and personally prefer the quality of tv recorded using Elgato over that I buy from itunes. I think EyeTV and AppleTV are the perfect combination. I have EyeTV 3 and have reviewed it here :.http://www.digmo.co.uk/software/eyetv-30/

What's funny is that I could not buy the upgrade using Safari and had to use Firefox. For a Mac Shop not really a good state of affairs. However the upgrade looks very nice.

It would be nice to know if there's multi-tuner support in EyeTV 3 - e.g. a Cinergy S (DVB-S) and a Cinergy T2 (DVB-T) at the same time (since both are supported)
This Feature was partially working in ETV2.5, somebody (TUAW?) knows if this got better?
@Jon: Thanks for the links!!
Maybe someone knows this too: what about Video Zoom for Front Row 2, those black bars get really on my nerves..

Canadians Beware:
As great as the new EyeTV 3 software seems to be, there still is no apparent end in site for the lack of Canadian program schedule integration. This severely limits the functionality of the software. Any Canadians interested in the Elgato EyeTV 3 should visit the Elgato user forums for more information.

Anyone has experience with using El Gato's products to hook up a console (Wii or 360) to your mac? ANy insight would be useful.
