Apple cancels booth for NAB
If you were planning on Apple pulling something out of its hat on a booth at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show in Las Vegas in early April, you're going to be disappointed. TVTechnology.com has received confirmation from Apple's Senior Manager of PR Anuj Nayar that the folks from Cupertino are cutting back on their show participation, and will not be having a booth at NAB this year. With some of us at TUAW hoping to get some more details on the long-delayed Final Cut Server at NAB, this is something of a disappointment. Despite a statement that FCS will be 'available in early 2008,' the software has yet to ship. Of course, Apple not having a booth doesn't mean that the future of Final Cut Server is indeterminate -- Apple is touting its use at a Los Angeles TV station, after all -- but all those hoping to see it in action at NAB will be left wanting.
Thanks Brett!

Apple has made it clear they don't need big events to launch hardware / software

interesting.. i think this is more about apple wanting to avoid having to release products according to others' time tables more than anything else. If they always have to time product launches with this show or that i think they'd rather time it with theirs.
this might throw off our product launch prediction but it might mean that fewer unfinished products make it to launch cos they had to meet some deadline

There will naturally be updates. Final Cut Server is a system that final cut pro and associated programs such as motion and sound track pro work within. Think of FCServer as the queen bee and FCPro as the worker beezzzzz !!!!

Final Cut Server is vaporware. I know a guy working on the project and it crashes on every launch. Definitely not ready for prime time.

Oh give me a break, Apple released asstons of stuff at last year's NAB -- more film stuff than they've ever released at one time. FCS2, Color, Server, ProRes... Hell, I'd be upset if they released FCS3 or something similar this soon.

Say all you want about FCP, I want to hear about what the Nothing Real team is up to since killing Shake over a year ago. And no, Apple doesn't need big events to launch products, but hell they can at least talk about whats going on. Products like Toxic are slowly creeping into Shakes user base and Apple continues to sit on their thumbs about it.

What about the end of February surprise that's in the entry just prior to this one? Maybe FCS is there!

I just really want Apple to come out of the closet with their update for DVD Studio Pro. I was surprised last year at NAB that there was no DVDSP with Blueray option. Look Sonic has it already, why can't Apple - seeing as their on the fucking Blueray Board. Come on Apple - hurry the fuck up - it's not like we're still living in 1992.
asswipes,
Merv
