WebObjects Update 5.4.1 for Mac OS X 10.5
WebObjects, Apple's little discussed web application framework, has been updated for Leopard. That's right, Apple still makes WebObjects and it would seem they even have an engineer or two actively working on it. The update clocks in at 153 MB and includes many bug fixes which are always welcome.

I'm still confused about the licensing of WebObjects. Who can use it, and where.

WebObjects comes with Developer tools - free. Use Eclipse for development, however. Deployment comes with Server version of OS X, inclusive. You can use the frameworks to deploy on other *nix operating systems, but that is not supported by Apple (we do it, and lots of others, too).
You can also build as WAR and deploy on WebSphere, Tomcat, etc. -- anything J2EE and the current 1.5 JVM.

Awww, that's so cute! (pats WO on the head)
I really did like WO back in the day. Remember when it ran Dell's website? Good times.

WebObjects is alive and well. Don't get it why people think otherwise.
- Runs the Apple Store
- Runs the iTunes music store
- Runs .Mac
- Runs many other Apple sites
- Free for anyone to use. Just as Xcode, Cocoa, ...

Is there any reason someone who isn't involved in coding might want this? I'm tempted to install it just to have the latest/greatest/whateverest, but if there's no point then I'll not bother with it.

Unless you develop web applications, no, WebObjects is really of no use to you.

Even if you do develop web applications, WebObjects is probably of no use to you ;)
