Cover Stream brings the old CoverFlow back

Unless you use Cover Stream, an iTunes helper app that recreates the old CoverFlow interface outside of iTunes. It's even incorporated the "flip-browsing" that you can do on the iPhone, where you just flip the art over to choose a specific track to play. As for how it actually works with iTunes, we can't say, but at least that CoverFlow interface is still available unofficially.
By the way, I'm planning on doing a roundup (similar to the alarm clock one) of iTunes helper apps like this, so if there are any you want to see included, drop a note here in the comments. I have a few in mind already, but suggestions are welcome.

Ooo, ooo! Synergy is the main reason I can manage to actually use iTunes when I'm busy (of course, alongside iScrobbler)!
I'd love to see how it would rank among a roster of helper-app heavyweights.

I'm looking for an app (for XP or Leopard) that will enable me to share my iTunes library across my home network to other iTunes libraries or to Apple TV without having to have the full-blown iTunes app running!

I have always wanted that too.

You are looking for http://www.fireflymediaserver.org/ , previously known as mt-daapd. The stable version is currently Linux only, but there's a beta for Windows and a Mac version coming soon. I use it at home and at work. It works great.

I just use the little "Change Kind of" script that makes it easy to move your ripped TV shows or Tubesocked YouTUBE videos into their respective categories in iTunes...

Coverflow is the centerpiece of OS X's UI? Why doesn't anyone TELL me these things? Here I've been using list view LIKE A CHUMP! ;)

I have one of the last copies of the coverflow app that were downloaded. If enough people want it (and you can show this by responding to this comment) I will upload it to my server.

OH, thats great to hear..... to get an roundup of itunes helper apps, soon. At the moment I'm using Coversutra (bought it with MacHeist), but I miss some very nice features from GimmeSomeTUne, I used before. Coverstream looks very nice for me too. So it would be great if these 3 applications would be included in your roundup.

I'm also using CoverSutra along with GimmeSomeTune... They work great together.
This one looks good too... I can't wait to read about more.

I love TotalTunes Control!
Growl Notification of music changes, Last.fm built-in, hot-keys built in, small controller through an hot key. Music search (can't play a full album/artist although, only the tracks in them)
And the BEST: It's FREE!

The thing is... this isn't like CoverFlow originally was. It doesn't have a vertical tilt (movement or no movement), it doesn't have search, and it doesn't have full screen. Also, it's flip-around is nothing like the iPhone's(/iPod's). The navigation is pretty far from intuitive also.
I hate to be a whiner, but I was really hoping that this would be good. I don't see why Apple doesn't put the flip-around right in iTunes so that you could actually browse iTunes music in full screen Coverflow.
Maybe because they want me to buy it on an iPhone.

Apple seriously need to update iTunes to have flip around artwork... how hard can it be. The whole app needs a refresh... nevermind product updates, what happened to getting the core software right?

My favorite is You Control Tunes. CoverFlow aside, I think it has the best UI of the iTunes controllers. And it happens to be free.

Did the original version of coverflow have a Windows version? also, my only other requests are other cool iTunes plugins that work on Windows ...

i second Total Tunes Control. very elegant piece of software that they just updated yesterday. some distinguishing factors:
- album art is displayed as if in a jewel case
- songs from the entire album are automatically grouped
- built-in itunes library search
GimmeSomeTune is the only iTunes helper i know of that has pretty good lyrics-fetching capabilities.
YouControl Tunes is also nice, but takes up way more memory than either of the above two. however, it allows for the browsing your entire iTunes library from your menubar.
(these are all free.)
