Shuffle price drop

After this morning's store downtime the Shuffle product page shows a $30 price drop to $49. If you're in the doghouse for not getting a Valentine's Day gift for your significant other, this might be your opportunity. Of course, I don't know what meaning might be construed from giving your sweetheart runt of the iPod family, but it might be taken better than the heart-shaped box of chocolates you picked up in the check-out line.

What am I saying? Mac users are romantics in addition to being snobs, right?

Thanks Mog!

Update: Woah! In all the excitement we missed the fact that Apple has also announced a new 2GB shuffle that will sell for $69 when it is available later this month (our friends in the UK will be paying £32 for the 1GB model and £45 for the 2GB model) .

I'm a few days late on the "announcement"... wondering what speculation there is with colors of the 2GB shuffles?

They have a 14 day return policy so you should have no problem returning it for the $30.00 credit.

The mini iPod Shuffle is perhaps the best little gadget ever ... and one of the best examples of minimalist design that still easily performs it's function

Also, the aluminum, refurbished iMacs got a significant price cut.

I love this excitement that Apple is creating around itself. New announcements every Tuesday must be driving people to apple.com (although I don't know how many of those people wouldn't be checking anyway). But as an Apple owner, it's pretty fun to get at least mildly excited to see what Apple's going to do next.

Consider this: €79 is roughly Equal to $116 right now. So Europeans are paying $116 for something that costs Americans $69. That's a difference of $47. Shipping from US to Germany costs just $23 and takes about 5 days. Altogether it would still be a savings of €16, assuming you could get someone to ship it there and declare the value and contents correctly so as not to get hit with the VAT charge.

As a second iPod, the shuffle is great. Working out and jogging are what its great for. Obviously if its going to be your only DMP then maybe you'll want a screen, and some of those other extras. But as an iTunes user and and owner of an iPod Touch, I don't want to have to switch between media programs to sync my music to my two players. And I have to think a lot of iPod Shuffles out there are second players, used for working out so you don't have to lug around an iPod Classic or Touch or iPhone.

Thanks for reiterating the general consensus everyone landed on three years ago.

Too little, too late.

Apple should have reduced the price of the Shuffle BEFORE Xmas and they should have reduced the price to $39. which is more reasonable considering the cost of flash memory these days. They could have sold a few million more if they'd done that.

At this point they should have released an entirely new product perhaps one with a minimal screen at least showing song names and artist. Even at $49 the shuffle is over.

My $79 Shuffle goes back today. I purchased it 13 days ago and Apple has a 14 day return policy. Lucky I checked apple news this morning.
