Amazon has started selling the iPod touch 32GB model. You might be asking, "What's so special about that?" Well, if you read the page carefully, you will notice that Amazon also is offering up a free iPod shuffle with the purchase of an iPod touch 32GB. That's right, you get a free 1GB iPod shuffle when you purchase an iPod touch. The ad reads: "You qualify for a free 1 GB iPod shuffle with the purchase of this 32 GB iPod touch from Amazon.com. Eligible 1 GB shuffles include the blue, green, silver, and purple. Just add both items to your cart and you will not be charged for the shuffle."
As you may recall, Apple lowered the price of the iPod shuffle to $49 last week. Amazon is currently selling the 32GB iPod touch for $494 while Apple is selling the same thing for $499 -- seems that Amazon is wanting your business. Do you plan to use this opportunity to get a free iPod shuffle? Be sure to sound off in the comments!

I would, only I just recently received my 1G silver Shuffle from TiVo as a result of conning two of my friends into purchasing a TiVo.
Still a good deal though.

When Palm offers a $99 PDA for free with the purchase of a $299 PDA, the world laughs and kids about it.
When Apple/Amazon offers a $49 MP3 player for free with the purchase of a $499 MP3 player, everybody commends them and calls it a good deal.
I love my iPod Touch and my iBook, but even I see the ridiculousness in this.

Then there's the little issue in that Apple isn't offering this deal, it's Amazon.

Fair enough Libb, but there is some difference. There are unique uses for each of the two iPods. One is perfect for the gym but doesn't hold much music. The other holds everything but is perhaps too delicate for some activities.
The two different Palm units though, they're kinda the same and they're kinda both crap. I mean, are there any especially appropriate uses for one versus the other? I want to like Palm, I want to root for the underdog, but I've had several of their devices including the most recent T|X and frankly they're little more than junk these days.
I know, I know, Palm has so many great 3rd party apps, but really, few people want one Palm let alone two. Most people want an iPod, and given the option, they'd be happy to take two.

Too delicate?
My Touch goes EVERYWHERE I go. No problems or scratches. Slides right into my jeans pocket and since it's so nice and thin, I barely notice it.

would u guys get the iPod touch over a nokia n810?
n810 has flash support, VOIP, open source apps etc.
iPod touch is beautiful but the unreleased SDK leaves too many questions.

Depends if you want an iPod or not.
Nokia n810 has only 2gb on storage unless you want to buy an extra card. It maxes out on storage at 10gb with an 8gb SDHC card. You will have to drop about $80 on that. Leaving you at $450-500 for 10gb of music.
You can get an 8gb touch for $265 on Amazon.
It depends if you want an iPod with internet browsing, or and internet tablet with audio playback

They are both pretty nice. The n810 looks to have a few more features, but in a less elegant package. I would probably take the Touch, occasionally wish it had more features, but be overwhelmed by the ease of use.
This is an Apple blog though, so adjust any responses accordingly.

Depends on what you want them for
The iPod Touch is a media player with some added applications.
The N810 is a portable internet device with added media functions.

Heck yeah I plan to take advantage. I've been planning to pick up a Touch to replace a Palm E2. The Palm just doesn't work right under Leopard (nothing I can do will coax contacts onto the stupid thing), and with the apps that were recently added to the Touch, it fills the functions I need a PDA to fill. With the SDK coming out some time soon, it should only get better.
As for the Shuffle, that's just the icing on the cake. I know some don't like the Shuffle, but I think it's about as close to a perfect mini music player as you can get. I still use my 1st gen Shuffle regularly. It's wonderful for taking to client's offices, it's super small and I can concentrate better once I get down to work, and the 2nd gen is just that much smaller.
It's a nice deal, and besides, I can justify it as a business expense since I'll be using them both for business :)

actually I think amazon I trying to get people interested in buying the touch from them instead of apple since they screwed up the original shipment of the 32gb touches. Amazon had the 32gb touch on "preorder" with an unspecified ship date for way too long and I think they are doing anything they can to get people to buy it now.
I actually am one of he few amazon had lost by screwing up the touch preship. During "preorder" they had the touch at $475 and with the amazon prime I have, I would have been set. But they refused to quote a ship date and I was not going to wait around forever to get my touch. Not paying the tax would have been great, but I just said "forget it" and picked it up at my local apple store. I ended ip paying tax and had to wait foe them to find theirs in the large stockroom but at least they could give me an accurate availability information.
On well. Maybe for my next big ticket item amazon won't screw up the process.

just a note. I wrote that last comment on my touch. You can tell I'm still trying to get used to the keyboard. Sorry for some of the obvious spelling mistakes, there is still some tweaking to be done to the word complete function.

I think it's a great deal. Buy the touch for $494. Sell the ipod shuffle on ebay for $40-$50. Poof. touch for $450. Not bad.

If I was in the market for this particular iPod touch, then yeah I would take advantage of the deal. Unfortunately (for Amazon), I already own an 8GB iPhone and several iPods so I don't have a need for this deal.

Since you already bought a 32GB mp3 player with flash storage (so you wont have hard drive issues when used for sports) what would you do with a 1GB screenless mp3 player????? Give it to a friend?

Are you willfully ignoring the previous post where I talked about why I'd want both of these? Not to mention the probably dozens of posts you're no doubt seen and ignored on other sites explaining the same thing?
I'm also betting you're one of those broken records who's constantly harping on the "it doesn't have a screen, it sucks!" thing, completely ignoring the millions of us who are perfectly happy with the Shuffle for certain things.
