I'm having trouble with this update. After installing iPhoto now gives me the spinning beachball and is not responding on both iMac and MacBook. Help! Can I roll back somehow?

When I go to Software Update via Apple menu it initiates the update. I generally disable auto update functions in all programs, just because I think it might slow things down some. This time it clearly did not work from within iPhoto. Any insights ? How much of a problem do auto updates cause ?
