My Time Capsule is sitting somewhere in China at the moment, but our friends over at Engadget managed to get their hands on one, and they have even posted some unboxing pictures. They note that the device itself is a little larger than you might think it is based on looking at the pictures on Apple.com. I'm sure they will post more once they put the Time Capsule through the paces.
I'll certainly be posting my first impressions once I get my Time Capsule up and running.

Why the hell would you need a remote for a router?

It was a joke. There was a 6+ page rant fest the other day about the new MacBooks and MBPs not coming with the Apple Remote anymore. Nothing to see here. Move along...

Drat, my shipment still says the same thing "prepared for shipment". Yet, my laptop now shows as being shipped, go figure.

I am really interested on how well this works. Time Capsule is perfect for laptop users, assuming that the backup speed is decent and the thing works as advertised.

Wow, it's a lot bigger than I thought it would be. Almost too big.

Does anyone know if there is a third party wi-fi hard drive backup like Time Machine that doesn't cost $500?
I love the Time Machine concept, but I only need to back up one laptop and I don't need it to cost a half a grand.

With the education discount I can get the 500 GB model for $279 and the 1000 GB model for $479. For a product that includes a wireless hard drive compatible with Time Machine, a wireless N base station with additional gigabit ports, USB ports for wireless printing or additional storage, all in a very attractive package, $279 is a steal. I can't believe they released them so cheap, actually.

Re: it's a lot bigger, blah, blah.
Does this mean I was the only geek around who went to Apple's website when this critter was announced and looked up the dimensions to see if it fits easily into the spot reserved for a router on my crowded desk?
And folks wonder why I question the technical acumen of Engadget and TUAW.

I saw a few in person at Macworld, so I won't be surprised with how big it is. :) And of course you can just look at the tech specs.

I have a sneaky feeling that Apple's manufacturing plants are somewhere several kilometres away from where I am living at.

It is really cheap! I am slightly miffed by having just purchased the AEBS just a few months ago and a new 500Gig hard drive. I paid over $280 (for the student discount). I hope that Apple turns on the ability to do Time Machine backups via AEBL now that the Time Capsule is released.

Anyone know if Apple is delaying supply to third party vendors..? I've had one on order from Amazon for weeks and they still have no estimated ship date.
I think I should just cancel it and walk into the Apple store a few miles up the road and pick one up.
