Retro Thing, one of my favorite blogs, points out this clever hack. The iPod nano is great, but that screen is a little small for watching movies. How do you solve that problem? Well, if you have some time, a 35mm slider viewer, and some small speakers you can hack together a solution (as seen in the video).
The movie looks pretty good, though this solution does make the iPod just a little less portable. That's the great thing about hacks, though, they don't need to be practical to be awesome.

Wow! This was on Gizmodo and Digg over a month ago. ( http://gizmodo.com/346991/nanoscope-appletv-19730 ). Breaking news!

So what if it isn't 'breaking news'. It's not really time sensitive, is it? I hadn't seen it on Gizmodo, so this is the first time I've seen it and I don't give a shit if it's a month old.

I guess it didn't come off that way, but, my post was more meant to comment on TUAW bloggers only now finding this and posting it. I thought they scoured the web for Mac stuff, and it's kind of surprising they drudge this out long after it had its time in the sun (albeit a short time at that).

Well, let's put it this way, Shane. It was news to me, so I'm *GLAD* Scott posted it.
Seriously, I don't know why you're unhappy about this. It's a non-issue as far as I can see.

Point taken. I guess if you read a number of gadget blogs it's interesting seeing when and how others report things. I appreciate that not everyone reads Gizmodo (I can't blame anyone for that, it's not particularly good).
Anyway, sorry if I offended you with my initial post. It comes off as snarky, even though that wasn't really the tone I had intended. I think the exclamation marks did me in.

Although I see both sides of the argument, I really thought TUAW would be on sites such as gizmodo for any Apple stuff.
On the topic of the post, I think this is a really fun mod, and is pretty cool. But if I remember correctly, the guy had to encode the videos upside down to get them to work?

put up with the olds. other places reported on it before. big deal. you've seen it twice now. i check tuaw because it's in my bookmarks. no other gadget sites are because i dont care enough. this was a neat story.

Neat hack. Though if I were to use this hack to watch a video at home/office, I may as well watch it on the computer that was used to encode the upside down movie. :)
