Plans in place for a third Australian Apple Store
ifoAppleStore is reporting that plans are in place for a third Apple Store in Australia. While construction on the Sydney store is underway and a Melbourne store is rumored to be planned for the Chadstone Shopping Centre, it looks like a third store will be build in Chatswood (north of Sydney).
Australia received a little attention from Apple earlier this year when iPhoto books, etc. became available for the first time.
If any of our friends in Australia snap a spy photo of these locations, please let us know!

Why the hell doesn't Santa Barbara have an Apple store? You want to talk about tons of disposable income just lying around?
Wake up Apple.

You let Tasmania off the map. Considering it is known as the "apple isle" this is a serious, serious mistake.

Great. More proof Sydney people are lazy. Why not put a store in South Australia, Tasmania, Western Australia or NT?
Port Pirie sounds like the perfect place.

Looking forward to Chadstone getting a real Apple store, I wonder what it means for the existing reseller Compnow?
Also, I agree that it is bad form to leave off Tasmania from the Aussie map.

Sheeesh, no lover for Brisbane at all (neither from Apple nor the commenters). The Gold Coast would be a good place to shove a store as well, lots of tourists walking around dazed and confused (from the sun stroke, I presume).
All I want now is a 3G iPhone so I have something to look forward to when my contract with Virgin expires.

2 Stores in NSW almost within the same city? I would have thought Brisbane would get a look in- considering we nearly have a Krispy Kreme store! Brisbane needs some Apple love!
Poor Tasmania, always left off.

i used to work for compnow, the apple reseller in chadstone. they do a killer business in there, though small retail space. i think though with a real apple store, and myer selling apple kit as well, they wont last too long.

Just to be clear, Chatswood is in Sydney not near it - it is a suburb a few minutes from the city centre. So it really is a bit of a slap in the face for Brisbane and Perth.

Chatswood - interesting. Maccentric, one of apples largest resellers in the country, has their flagship store in the heart of chatswood. Apple moving in there would really harm them imo. They've won best australian apple reseller for 3 years running, if i recall correctly. Not the best way to treat them...
But, if a second store was to happen in Sydney, chatswood would be the likely place. Third would be bondi junction. All the major retail hubs

Looking forward for the Apple stores to open, Melbourne and Sydney are obvious choices, Brisbane is growing at an alarmingly fast rate, but it's probably too soon to choose a position for a store up there.
I'm hoping Apple releases the iPhone when they debut down here.... 4 people (not including myself) had iPhones on the train platform this morning... But I do plan on buying one as soon as they are released in Australia... Hopefully they have a 32GB version by then!

I was at an Apple HR seminar for the Creative positions last month. We were told by a senior women from Cupertino that Melbourne was a 'potential' future option. The third store will be at Westfield Bondi Junction in Sydney's Eastern suburbs. Geographically, these locations (Chatswood, CBD and Bondi Junction) cover Australia's most wealthy suburbs.

CBD, Chatswood and Bondi will cover the wealthy parts of Sydney. I wouldn't be surprised if Parramatta gets one eventually. I can't see anywhere else in Sydney getting one - maybe Burwood or Miranda.
As for other Australian states, who cares! (I'm kidding rest of Australia!) There is no reason why each capital city will not get one. Australians spend more on gadgets than nearly any other place in the world. Macs will catch fire, I'm sure of it.
