iPod 5G gets an update to 1.3

If there's one thing you can be sure of in the software update department, it's that an otherwise nondescript iPod software update will include "bug fixes." In the case of the new 1.3 update for 5G and 5.5G iPods, that's about all we know so far. The update is available via iTunes but has not shown up yet on Apple's download pages.

I've just installed the update on my iPod and there aren't any visible changes to speak of. If you've got the update and you notice anything odd, please do speak up.

Thanks Oli!

I just downloaded the new firmware version and have had nothing but problems. I was on an older version of iTunes, so the new indexing messed up the quick scroll feature on my iPod. I fixed that, but noticed today that my music sounds horrible! Anything with even a little bit of bass sounds distorted.

Does anyone know if they changed the EQ algorithms with this new release? My music sounded fine before the update. I've been able to fix a few of the more egregious albums using MP3Gain, but I really don't want to have to go through my entire collection.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I added this version 1.3 and now my Floola program doesn't work and neither do any of the other programs that are trying to reproduce iTunes. I use these programs because I don't have my own computer... I just use random computers at the library which you can't do with itunes. I think these "bug fixes" are a nice way to say "You can't use anything but iTunes for your iPod." Thanks Apple.

One problem this seems to have fixed was that it was my 5.5G video IPOD had a nasty habit of listing a band's name 6 times in the Artists' directory, even though I had only uploaded them one time into the iPOD.

Immediately following the firmware update - no more multiple listings of Rage Against the Machine. :]

Also, am I imagining things or has the Apple logo displayed during boot-up disappeared? Whenever I turn off the device, then turn it back on again, I'm brought back to the same song I was last listening to?

I'm an idiot...I think the music videos came from a friend who loaded some files onto my iPod, so please disregard that portion of my last message. If someone can tell me how to fast-scroll through lists, I'd appreciate it.

You literally just scroll quickly on the wheel of the iPod. After a few rotations, the letters in the black boxes do come up and then you can go by letter until you lift your finger, I'm pretty sure. Let me know.

I've been doing it somehow intuitively, but I reached my iPod to try just now. Seems like if you do more than 1 scroll/second for two seconds, the fast-access turns on.
BTW, fast-access doesn't work for non-latin characters :(

Somewhat new to the iPod 5th generation (got it second hand as a gift and it was originally linked to a PC, but now I have reset it and hooked up to my PowerBookG4). After the most recent update, I browsed through the video section and noticed I got a bunch of sample music videos. Can any one tell me when they were imported? I mean were they part of a previous update. Also, I've noticed that my podcasts do not show up in the Artists menu but are still included in the Albums menu. Lastly, I can see that when I scroll fast through any menu, the letter shows up in a black box - I guess for faster browsing, but I'm not exactly sure how I get that to happen. Any help is much appreciated and any links would be helpful. Thanks

I found a link to a brief summary of the fixes and the location for the software w/o iTunes.

Didn't leave out podcasts from the artists list like someone mentioned :-(

My podcast menu was fast up until I upgraded to 1.2.3 and it is not fixed in 1.3. Now all it does is lag when im browsing through the podcast menu.

I noticed two changes
1. In the sorting of the songs, symbols like () are automatically ignored.
2. In the settings menu, in the time zone, there were some time zones that were absent there although there were present in the clock. Now these missing time zones are present (Like Chennai).
