Refurb iPhone from AT&T: $249. Maybe
TUAW reader Matt Daughtry tipped us off about this refurb AT&T iPhone deal for just $249 with free shipping. Much as I tried to buy one, the awful AT&T web design just would not let me add one to my cart and check out. If you have better luck and can leave some how-to tips in the comments, I'll greatly appreciate it. $249 for an 8GB iPhone is a terrific deal, especially for everyone who now needs a spare development unit.
Update: Mystery solved, iPhone purchased. I ended up having to clear my cookies because my existing login as a GoPhone customer was interfering with the purchase. Took an hour on the phone with AT&T and them saying: "But we can't sell to you, you're a GOPHONE customer!" while I begged them to ignore that fact since there was nothing on the site that said the purchase was not available for GoPhone users.

I just sent in this tip also. I successfully added it to my cart and purchased it. Current AT&T customers can buy it by logging into their account and upgrading their line.

I ordered one for my brother a few hours ago. I had to clear out my shopping cart first. Somehow the site had already added a regular iPhone to the cart. Once empty, I was able to add the refurb. btw I'm using Firefox 3.0b4

It might be off-topic, but did you all try this?
It is a service standard build into the iPhone by Apple, but not yet enabled. So enable it yourself. :-)

Successfully added to cart here -- Safari 3.0.4 on Leopard.
(Already have an iPhone, so I didn't try to check out.)

I followed the link in the post from Engadget and clicked the "Buy it Now" button on the right. From there, I just followed the usual checkout procedure. I was actually able to buy two! (two different transactions)

I followed the link from Engadget (sent to me by a friend before it hit Engadget). I clicked "Buy It Now" and purchased it using Firefox 2.0.0.6 on Fedora Core 5. Nothing special done, although I imagine that this has gained momentum. AT&T is either running out of units, or (more likely) their servers can't handle the traffic (remember they crashed on iPhone release day due to the heavy sales volume).

To add a little more detail - I had to supply my ZIP code, after which it showed up in my cart. And if anyone cares, it is $249.99, with FREE 2-day priority shipping, and apparently no tax charged (to this California resident, at least).
On a separate note, if I don't want to use the cell radio, can I use this as a development unit without activating it through iTunes? I don't plan on 'switching' from my Treo until the 3G iPhone ships, but this was too good a deal to pass up on, since I'm already neck deep in the SDK.

The SDK can't run code on the iphone (apple haven't released the certificates required to do so) so it's no use as a development unit until June, and you may be able to get the 3G by then anyway.
What you have there is a chunky ipod touch :p

"especially for everyone who now needs a spare development unit" .. pah! Meanwhile we Dutch can't even get it. Mocking us with your 'spare development unit'!
But yes, awsome deal. If only it would ship to Europe (Netherlands plz!).

Don't feel bad. I'm in Wyoming, USA and I can't order one either, as we have no local ATT. Soon's I put in my zip code it cuts me off.
