In keeping with the 2008 tradition of Tuesday morning updates, Apple released Safari 3.1 today for both OS X and Windows -- marking the transition out of beta status for the Windows build. At 143MB (for the Leopard version, at least), there's a lot of changes, including- Improved JavaScript performance
- Standards support, including CSS 3 web fonts, HTML 5 video and audio elements, and SVG advanced text
- Developer benefits like editing CSS in the Web Inspector
- Caps lock alert in password fields (Yay!)
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

Any word on if it kills the current Saft build?

It is most definitely broken, and trying to find updated versions on the Saft site is an exercise in futility.

Last update, someone instructed thusly to get Saft to cooperate with a minor update of Safari. It might not work for this update if they changed actual Safari functionality.
1- Show Package Contents on Saft (right click)
2- in Contents/Resources/Saft.bundle
3- Show Package Contents again
4- open Contents/Info.plist
5- change "SaftSupportedSafariBuild" Array with [whatever it says when you go to About Safari -- mine is currently 5523.15]
Let me know if it works -- I can't bear even a day without Saft, so I won't risk it myself yet.

Slowest Version yet!...In my Windows desktop, 15 to 20 seconds to load the homepage, after Safari displays. Hitting the back button, after viewing a video...easily 10 to 15. I see the back button shows depressed but just hangs for 15 seconds before the page actually goes back. Tried restarting but same exact results... Very poor from my experience. Thank Mozilla for Firefox!

It broke my 1Password button. If you use 1Password, I'd hold off.

Hey, was History Coverflow in 3.0? Or is that a brand new (and very cool) 3.1 feature?
