Two big TUAW snaps up to reader Timothy Colburn for tracking down this fab iPod nano offer. Between now and June 30th, when you buy a refurb nano, Apple is going to throw in a $15 iTunes gift card. Sweet! Make sure to read through the how to and the terms and conditions because they're significantly longer than the offer itself.
So does this mean that Apple is readying itself for an iPod refresh? We have no idea -- but a nano in the hand is worth two in the bush.
Update: Just got back from my son's school play and found several notes in my mailbox about this offer. Apparently, Apple sales associates are not honoring this promotion any more and the promo has been removed from the website.

Refurb store prices have been heading south for Touches, iPhones and Shuffles.
iThink we'll get new 'Pods at the "Landmark" event.

For the additional $20 I'll buy a new 4gb rather than a refurb.

The refurbs are the same thing in a different (sealed) box. I have a refurb nano, and it's fine.
Better, in fact, than the retail nano 3G I bought when they first came out. The screen on the refurb isn't crooked.

I just spoke to an Apple sales associate on the phone, and he told me that the promo was removed from the website and cancelled as of today.
I tried to get them to honor it for my refurb nano purchased a couple weeks ago, but Apple says the offer does NOT stand as TUAW reports it, and the direct link they're offering is just a link to the image-- it's not actually active on the Apple Store site.
He said it was an "Apple decision" which I can only assume means the higher-ups told the store that the promo was a no-go.

I made a purchase yesterday morning because of this offer and the free gift card price was never reflected in my order. I called them later in the morning and was told the engineer's were on it. I somehow doubt that I'll ever get the credit now that the promo is canceled! :/ Arg!

you'll get the promo. The price of the nano will be adjusted or you'll get $15 back on the nano. I think the reasoning behind this being cancelled is due to the fact that apple doesn't own iTunes content. That belongs to the record companies.

Guess they didn't expect/hope the demand for refurbs to take up the supply so fast. Should have said. "Hurry now, because supplies are limited. First come, first served". But that would sound so not cool. Ooops
