RadTech has just announced the ProCable iPhone headset. This set of in ear isolation headphones includes a mic so you can rock out to Wham! and not worry about missing a phone call (perhaps to wake you up before they go go). The ProCable headset also features a 'sound valve' that opens up when you're listening to music at a lower volume so you can hear what is going on around you.The ProCable iPhone headset is available now in black and silver, and goes for $24.95.

That's great, I just wish that someone would come up with something so that my iphone cuts into my music when I'm listing to my iPod Classic.

Switch to vibrate and put your phone in your pocket?
James said 6:16AM on 3-27-2008
nah sometimes it doesn't work, if I'm on the bus or a train sometimes I don't feel it. It's quite annoying. Also I then have to stop my ipod, and go into my pocket and grab my iphone, etc.
Much easier if it cut in, and my headphone had a mic on just like the iphone is meant to work.

Wow, that actually sounds reasonable. Must not be made from "Monster" cable...

I found a promo code for Radtech, dropping it down by 15%: Use RTPROMO1 at checkout.

FYI, I'm not affiliated with Radtech, just a buyer who wanted an extra couple of bucks off. :)

I would be curious to hear any reviews people have on these in the future.
I have the V-Moda ones, and they are less than great. The stories about the buds failing and the forever process of getting them replaced under warranty, are VERY true.
Even if support was the same, and they kept working, for the price these RadTech headphones would be worth it.
If they work and support was great never/needed these would be a steal IMO.
Cheers

I'm kind of a headphone junkie, and problems with the V-Moda Vibe Duo (the iPhone ones) do seem widespread. I have the normal Vibe (no mic), and have been quite pleased with them.
With that said, V-Moda is aware of an issue with the Vibe Duo, and that problem can exist in any of the Duos that are currently on store shelves. New, "fixed" units should be shipping within the next 3 weeks or so.
So, based on my experience with the Vibe, I'd recommend the Vibe Duo, but not for a few more weeks.
I've never had to use V-Moda's customer service, so I have no idea how good or bad they are in that regard.
The only beef I have with the Vibe is that they're a bit weak on the bass. But otherwise they're small, light, comfortable, and have pretty detailed sound reproduction.

For $24.95, these are probably going to sound horrible, both for music and the microphone. I'll stay away until I read any reviews.
I've found with headphones, you often do get what you pay for. I've got dozens of little $20 earbuds laying around collecting dust. That's not to say that more money always equals more quality, either. My $100 Bose earbuds suck, too, but for different reasons.

The problem is finding decent headphones with a mic attached. There isn't much competition in the market at the moment. The one thing I HATE about Apple's iPhone earbuds is that they keep constantly falling out of me ear.

Not True!
I have several Phillips SBC HS520 (and similar.. they keep tweaking the models) headphones, and they sound pretty good. They're only $14.
Then again, I don't need absolutely perfect sound, so maybe someone else might not like them, but I'd put the sound at "pretty decent", especially for $14.

@samweiss: I did say that I am open to reviews. I would *love* to find out that I can get a decent pair of iphone headphones with mic for only $25. I'm just going based on previous experience here.
It's all relative, though. One person's comfortable is another's painful. Something that sounds good to you might sound awful to me. I need my headphones to be comfortable, sturdy, and sound pretty good. I've had good experience with the Sennheiser PX series. I would love a wireless pair of Sennheiser PX200 with a built in mic. It's not going to happen anytime soon, obviously, but when it does, I would pay a lot for them.

I found some decent noise-blocking earphones at http://trickearphones.com. I use them on the lawn tractor.
Ryan said 1:12PM on 3-26-2008
I'm in for a pair, as there are no other cost effective options with the in-line mic.
Plus, use this code to get 15% off, shipping is $4.95:

I've never used any of Radtech's audio products, but I do have a screen protector and a sleeve from them for my MBP that I like a lot. Based on that, I'd be willing to give some of their earphones a shot, especially at that price.

Or apple could just make the iphone with a 3.5 hole that is standard for almost every headphone out there instead of 2.5.. So stupid you have to a stupid dongle or buy more headphones with a special 2.5 tip. Apple are you listening 3.5 millimeter headphone hole, ah thank you

I was under the impression that the iPhone does have a 3.5mm jack, but the casing is so tight around it that the casing around the plug for most headphones prevent them from being inserted fully.
samweiss said 2:37PM on 3-27-2008
Yep it's 3.5mm.
All you need to do is grab a small knife (xacto knife works better), and cut off a little piece of the insulation on the headphones, and they slide right in.
I would practice on a cheap adapter or headphones, cause the first one I did didn't come out so well. Most headphones have a metal or plastic shank that go a little ways into the jack, but if you cut off too much insulation, you'll miss it, and then you risk ruining the stability of the jack (the shank works as a stress relief/anchor for the wires).
KR said 1:58PM on 3-26-2008
The iPhone DOES have a standard 3.5mm jack, not a 2.5mm
The problem with compatibility is that the jack is recessed into the phone somewhat far for some strain relief (fewer destroyed headphone jacks that way), so only headphones with a fairly slim housing for their connector will fit in.
So, nothing on the iPhone has anything to do with a 2.5mm jack, nor do any of the available adapters.
It's all about having your 3.5mm plug be slim enough to fit into the recessed jack.

I just ordered them with the promo code for 15% off. I hope that they are decent. For the price I had to check them out. I'll report when I get them and give a run down.
