New Jersey Apple Store ready to open
Doesn't "Cherry Hill" sound lovely? It will sound even sweeter for Cherry Hill, New Jersey-based Apple fans this weekend when a new Apple Store opens on Route 38, next to A|X Armani Exchange and M•A•C Cosmetics (that's right, a Mac store next to a MAC store). The doors will open at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 29th. You can get full travel directions here. This will be The Garden State's 10th Apple Store.Residents of Philadelphia will also benefit, as this store is about 5 miles away from town (for some reason, Philly itself still lacks an Apple Store).
As usual, we ask any TUAW readers who visit the store to share their stories and/or pictures.
Thanks, Rico!

Philadelphia probably lacks an Apple Store because our unions suck (they protest everything). Also, there is no real shopping district that would be good for an Apple Store. South Street is not the right crowd, Center City mostly office buildings, and The Gallery is the most ghetto mall ever. Apple probably made the right choice opening the store in KoP, it is an upscale shopping center and they fit right in.

Center City is mostly office buildings? Do you live here? Walnut St in Rittenhouse Sq? 3rd St. in Old City? These are just a couple of places where an Apple Store would be right at home.
And yes, Springboard does a great job of filling most people's Mac needs.

There is no Apple store in Philly, because we have one of the best indie Mac stores in the country...Springboard Media.
There is also Penn Computer Connection over on 36th st., with edu discounts for students and faculty.

I'm a little surprised by this store location. It is very, very close to the existing Marlton Apple store--probably about 5 miles. We desperately need an Apple store in central New Jersey, specifically the Princeton area, which is the perfect demographic for Apple. If they open one in Princeton, I'm sure my purchases alone would make the store profitable.

I can't really see an Apple store in Princeton, just wondering where it would be. And there's one in Menlo Park, which really isn't that far of a drive.

We do have one in central NJ - Freehold Raceway Mall. Though one in Princeton would be even cooler :)

I agree that the princeton area needs an apple store. Counting traffic, it takes me 45 minutes to Bridgewater.
As another poster said, plenty of places it would fit, and it's the heart of Apple's demographic.
As for Philadelphia, I don't think anybody's mentioned the drag on business that their additional city taxes create, both on sales & salaries.

yea... there's like a 25-mile apple store free radius around princeton.

Marketfair is the ideal location and economic demographic--and is withing walking distance of my office!

I'm in the same boat in Princeton. Bridgewater's the best alternative, and not very fun to drive to. An Apple Store in Market Fair would be perfect, I think!

Well regardless, I live 5 minutes from the Ardmore store. Heaven on earth.

Springboard Media is where people from Philly go for Apple gear. They're great folks & the service is stellar.

wow, my thoughts exactly re: Princeton Apple store.
downtown on Nassau st, or at Marketfair would be great locations and certainly upscale.
I had to go up to Bridgewater, a 30-40 minute drive, last time I bought stuff.

once again, apple can't get a store in the city.
Ardmore is by far the best of the 3 existing and i doubt Cherry Hill will be any better than Sagemore.
why one is in Cherry Hill is the same reasoning that one is in Armore: let's build an Apple store 5 miles away from the existing one becasue that's where the money is.
and no, Springboard is no Apple store.
it lacks ambiance, and their set up dates to 1994. certainly better than Bundy, but a far cry from an adequate substitute for an Apple Store. i can't imagine Apple having that much respect or viewing Springboard as a legitimate threat.
could you imagine Apple on Rittenhouse? how about where the Sharper Image is going to close? nice local.
whomever is regional planner for Apple's brick-and-mortar has absolutely no love for the city and seriously disrespects us, even indirectly.
my ranking goes:
Ardmore (best space, local and it's neither a mall or Jersey; nuff said?), Sagemore/Cherry Hill, KoP (the absolute worst experience for an Apple store, and i've been to many)

Lacks ambiance?
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
To the contrary, it has better ambiance than actual Apple stores.
What exactly do you mean that the set up dates to 94? Have you even been in there lately?
They prop the door with a Mac +.
Where I come from, thats pimp.

The King of Prussia Mall has an Apple Store, probably because it's the largest mall on the east coast and people come from all around including Philly to go there.

I am also surprised about the Cherry Hill location because Marlton is definitely about 5 miles from Cherry Hill. The Sagemore location must do really well. You have to consider that we have 2 of everything around hear (at least). There's 2 best buys, 2 barnes and nobles, 2 lowes, 2 home depots, about, 10 targets... etc... I guess there's alot of spending going on around here. The atlantic city apple store is not to far from here too. I hear that whole pier does not do that well though.
