Sketchy update this. Whereas previously when my Macbook airport disconnected it would stay so, the update since to force it to reconnect (or at least display as such). Nevertheless, my connection has been fragile lately.

I was literally connected to internet when I downloaded this update. Then, I restarted my macbook pro, like it asked. Now, I can't connect...AT ALL!! I call Apple Care, they tell me that it's an AT&T issue, and I should try and contact them. They're other advice was to reinstall all those cd's that came with it...sweet. This update screwed all my connections up the second I restarted. Help...seriously, anyone know to fix this?

Good God, this update has been a disaster. Since I updated, I've had all kinds of issues with maintaining a connection. I used to run into the constant dropouts occassionally, now it seems the norm. I suppose most are hunky dory then, judging from the sparse comments?

The Airport Extreme 2008-001 released 28-Mar-2008 and distributed though automatic updates broke the wireless on my Intel based MacBook with OSX 10.4.11. After the update I could not connect to any wireless network that previously worked. When trying to connect to a wireless network I would get the message "there was an error joining the airport network NETWORKNAME". This is the fix for this problem:
1) Connect your MacBook to your Internet connection using the wired port. 2) Download the Airport Extreme client software version 2007-004 from Apple found here http://tinyurl.com/yw3dnu. 3) Download Pacifist from www.charlessoft.com. 4) Install Pacifist byt first clicking on the pacifist.dmg file to expand it and then copy the pacifist folder into your applications folder 5) Use Finder to locate /system/library/extensions/io80211family.kext and drag it to the recycle bin 6) Run Pacifist by clicking on the Pacifist icon found in your applications folder 7) From withing Pacifist, open the AirportExtremeUpdate2007004.dmg file previously downloaded and expand the sub folders until you can see the io80211family.kext file, select extract and direct it to extract the file to the /system/library/extensions/ folder 8) restart your MacBook and see if your wireless works again. 8) Report back here if it works with details of your OS version.
Good luck

"Use Finder to locate /system/library/extensions/io80211family.kext and drag it to the recycle bin"
I can't find this file to get rid of it. Where is /system located?
