Apple TV update 2.0.1

The only significant difference in the update is the implementation of Genres in the "My Movies" list. Have you noticed any new features that we haven't covered? Be sure to tell us in the comments.
Thanks to everyone that sent in a tip!

Genres in the Movies list isn't new.

It's Genres under "My Movies".

There is an option to remove podcasts from your favorites that aren't available.
Before, it would just tell you that the podcast was unavailable but it would stay in your favorites

I have been having a problem with the thumbnails onHD podcasts. It would freeze for about 4-5 secs and sometimes crashed
Seems to be working fine now. May not be part of the 2.0.1 as much as an issue with my appletv. But either way it's fixed.

EDIT: I meant 4-5 minutes
not seconds

I haven't been able to test it much, but that bug does seem to have been fixed.

Is it just me, or does it seem that the Genres under 'My Movies' navigates a bit sluggish.

I also noticed a trashcan next to a podcast that had been downloaded to the Apple TV. Was that trashcan/delete feature always there?
EBone said 1:08AM on 3-29-2008
Ben - the option to delete was there from 2.0, it was just a blue dot, and not very intuitive that it meant delete.

ebone: since 2.0, it's always been a blue dot with a trash can inside. How more intuitive do you want it to be?

Absolutely...it's hair-tearingly slow to select genres on my Apple TV! The rest of the interface seems pretty spritely though, just the genres. Most of mine are 'unknown' too....need to sort that out next I guess!

Just installed 2.0.1 and as soon as I navigated into the Movies section iTunes crashed on my Mac mini.

Nothing conspicuous about 2.0.1. Thus my heart is shattered. Apple needs to kype a little left-arrow function theory from TiVo.
Apple TV Take 2 is a rarity: a product from Apple with a relatively annoying interface.
The first version was fine, very iPod like. Take 2's design theory is based on those three little words: "Shop! Buy! Spend!" Meanwhile your "my stuff" category is parceled out all over steerage.
From the home screen it's 10 clicks from playing a movie to a playing a song. You have to go around the horn to get from your videos to your movies to your TV shows et al.
That doesn't include my countless clicks on the left-hand arrow. Fruitless, habitual clicks. On the TiVo, left clicks take you backwards, logically.
Hey, is it possible to program my TiVo remote's DVR2 switch to run Apple TV?
PS: Ya gotta hand it to Apple. They figured out how to sell a product labeled "TV" without including a screen.

@dswift: I bought a universal remote (the Universal Remote R5, $20 at Best Buy), for the sole purpose of trying to recapitulate Tivo's D-pad functions, and it was well worth it -- 5 years of muscle memory makes for hard-to-break habits! The right D-pad maps to Apple's middle button, so it selects menu items, and the left D-pad maps to Apple's menu button, so goes back a menu level. Up and down on the D-pad are the + and - keys on the Apple Remote, so you can just use the D-pad alone for menu navigation, as with the Tivo. As a universal remote, it has dedicated FF and REW buttons for DVD players/VCRs, so those are the analogs to the "right arrow" and "left arrow" buttons on the Apple remote.

You can go from any menu back to the top level by pressing and holding the Menu button for about 1 second. (This has worked since at least version 1.1.)

I completely agree with dswift - the 2.0 interface is very "buy buy buy" driven. At the very least, My _______ (Music, movies, whatever) and "Shared ________" should be at the top of the lists on the right column.
BUT... besides all that.
If you run a N 5ghz network at home for the Apple TV (AEBS, TC, etc), *do not run this update*. There's been dozens and dozens of reports on Apple's support forums about dropouts, forgetting the network after 5 minutes connection if that's your setup. Only a cold reboot (pulling the plug) fixes it, and again, only for five minutes.
Some are reporting that switching off Wide Networking on AEBS / TC fixes this, but not everyone.
Apple seems to have screwed the pooch on this update. Wait for 2.02, and read feedback about it for a few days before updating. I'm running TC / 5ghz / N at home, so I'm sticking with 2.0 for now.

I would like to be able to lock individual films using parental control - this doesn't seem possible.

The original poster of the article acts as though Take 2 is as fast and zippy as 1.x was? Have any of you owned a 1.x box before going to take 2? Don't you notice a major difference in the speed of the device? The Apple forums are loaded with posts about Take 2 significantly causing interface glitches and generally being slow. I take it that 2.01 didn't do much to remedy this issue?

Seems slow as usual. One problem I hope they've fixed is leaving the Apple TV and not using it for more than a few days - I come back to a frozen Apple Logo in the middle of the screen that won't go away.
