Here's a great trick from Macosxhints.com -- set up your Mac to automatically preview all downloads with Quick Look. It's a simple two-step process. First, install the Quick Look Droplet, a simple application that displays any file with Quick Look. Next, set your browser preference to automatically open certain file types (say, PDFs, Word documents and JPGs) with the droplet. It's much snappier than launching Preview or Word.

I don't understand what the Quick Look Droplet is for, why not just press the space bar?

I'm with you guys, I don't fully understand the usefulness of this—just Quick Look it in the Finder. If it's addressing an issue, then that would be the problem of not being able to Quick Look something in a Stack, and this doesn't fix that.

Is there a way to have Safari 3.1 open downloaded files with the droplet?

I've been looking for something like this for a while now..
I now use Quicklook for almost everything these days and don't often find the need to open Quicktime/VLC/Preview etc to watch a movie file or look at a file, so on the odd occasion when i double click a file by mistake (instead of pressing spacebar) and a program opens it annoys me..
Now i can just set the droplet as the default program for .avi/.mov etc and have Quicklook as the default.. And if i really want the program to open it (which isn't very often) i can still use the 'open with' option.. :o)
Just wish that spacebar could be used to close items opened with the droplet, that would be a great improvement..
